The stuff you buy at Walmarts doesn't kill all kinds of worms. You need to take the pup to the vet and they will do a stool sample to see what you are dealing with. The meds they give you start to work right away. I have so many cats that when I see one has any kind of worms I go to the vets and get enough worm medicine for all the cats. He doesn't make me bring the cats in because it would cost a fortune. The meds from the vet are not cheap but they work fast and very well. Good luck!

The worms should stop passing within a day or 2. The best thing for worming is strongid. You can pick it up at most feed stores and some of the pet supply stores carry meds that contain it.
The main question is though, what do the worms look like? It takes different types of meds for different worms. If they are tapes, strongid won't kill them and you would need to get the medicine from the vet. We have a puppy that had the worse case of tapes that I had ever seen. She ended up having to do 3 doses of the meds before it killed them.

It is round worms. Looks like spaghetti (or bean sprouts without the green thing). I had them to the vet yesterday for 6 week shots and de-worming. They gave them the meds without taking a sample. I have one more round to give them myself before we go back in 3 weeks for other shots and a check up. I will also give them their first dose of heart worm meds on the 1st.
I was really suprised when I saw the worms. I didnt realise they had them. It kinda freaked me out.

They should stop passing them anytime now. I know, they are so gross.
I was gonna say, it takes three wormings to totally get rid of round worms. I know how gross it is ! We have ours outside all spring/summer, running free, enclosed... and I have had many pups running around with a LONG round worm hanging out of their butt after worming...lol
I always get the 'pill' from the vet... it's only $5.00 here for each worming. Then, we put each pup on Heartgard heartworm monthly prevention (I buy online for cheap), that also keeps them from ever getting any worms again. And, as an added precaution, I pay $5.00 a year to have their stool tested just to make sure they didn't get any worms. So far, all ours have remained 'wormless' all their lives.
BTW, 99% of pups are born with roundworms.

This is kinda weird, but, I was talking to my brother last night and he told me whenever dogs(not young puppies) my dad had showed signs of worms, dad would put some Coppenhagen in ball of meat and feed it to the dogs to clean the worms out and supposedly it worked.
I am sure this probably happened alot of years ago, maybe sometime between the 50's and 70's as I dont remember dad ever doing it when I was growing up and my brother is quite a bit older than me.
I would never try this, but I thought it was an interesting home remedy.
