An EMG is an electrical stimulus test. My husband has one scheduled for Monday. I would like to hear if anyone else has had this test and how bad was it? Thanks.

I've never had one nor has anyone close to me. Which type is he having? Surface or IM?
Good luck to him.

I had a surface one. I couldn't go thru with it because of my fibromyalgia. It might not be that bad with him but for me it was murder.

The surface IM nor the needle IM doesn't seem too pleasant. I can't stand a hair falling onto my arm, lol.

My DH has had 2. He hates it. He was supposed to have a third and he refused. He said it hurt like the devil, he keeps saying "I'm no d&#$)^% pin cushion!" Good luck to your husband! I hope it won't be so bad for him.

I've had 3 of them done & it wasn't too bad. The needles are really fine. Ask your family doctor to prescribe one does of Arivan or Xanax for when you get this done. It does take the anxiety of it away/

I have had both. Unpleasant to say the least. I have a nerve disorder (duh) and it about killed me. My mom use to do these tests on patients. Some it bothers some it doesn't. I hope it doesn't bother him. Good luck. I hope the results are good news.

I had one done a few months ago. I didn't think it was too bad at all. The first 'zap' is a little freaky as not knowing what to expect but after that not bad. More uncomfortable feeling then pain for me. If they told me I would have to have another one tomorrow it would not bother me much. I do have a fairly high pain tolerance though.

I had one done as well, and you do feel like a human pin cushion. The amount of pain is pretty tolerable in some areas, but in areas like the pad of my hand it hurt like Hell. Sorry, I don't want to sugar coat it. But still wasn't as bad as labor, which is what some led me to believe the pain would be like. Yeah right! That was a cake walk compared to labor. lol
I think it also depends on a persons pain threshold. It might not be too bad for your husband. If he is nervous about it, he might ask for something to calm him down. I had to take one of my Ativan pills because I was too afraid I'd freak out on the table. It did help.
I hope you husband does not have too bad of a time with it.

It's over and he said it wasn't bad at all. Thank goodness. I think I had him scared to death. I know I will never have one. Thanks everyone.
