WESTWEGO, La. — Police say a Louisiana infant's body was covered with what appeared to be more than 100 small animal bites, perhaps some from rats, when she was found dead in her crib.

A Jefferson Parish coroner's office investigator says an autopsy did not immediately determine the cause of 3-month-old Natalie Hill's death.

Westwego Police Chief Dwayne Munch says the girl's father was in the front yard of the family's suburban New Orleans home Thursday shouting that his baby was dead.

Munch says the girl had severe wounds on her nose and leg along with dozens of suspected rat bites. He says investigators haven't determined whether she died before or after those injuries.

He says bloody animal footprints were in the crib and that her parents had traps out for rodents.

Poor baby. Sounds like she was really neglected in her short life.

That could be an if'y question. Rodents are nasty creatures. Obviously the father being so distraut about it, says that he was/is overwhelmed and heartbroken with grief. Maybe they didn't know that the rodent problem was that bad. They obviously knew there was some problem, they put out traps for them, but just maybe they didn't know it was THAT bad. I have mice from time to time (few and far between). But if I had RATS, now that's another story. Their nasty and vicious. And I believe that if the baby was knawed at, they would have heard crying or something. I don't know.
But like I said, if I knew I had "rats", the baby would have been in the room right next to me.
It's just a terrible tragic story!!

They said she had severe wounds on her nose and legs along with dozens of suspected rat bites. What caused the severe wounds on her nose and legs?

Wouldn't they have heard her screaming? Strange.

I would think that if the rats are that bad that you would notice. We had them for pets and I just can't see how you wouldn't notice a bunch of rats.
