Sorry but I just have to vent a little. Hughesnet says you can get high speed internet anywhere at something like 50 times the speed of dial up. NOT true, my internet is sommewhat faster than dial up but not a lot. They also don't tell you that if you download over 200 mb per day that they shut you down for 24 hours. I was paying my bill every month with my credit card but 3 (THREE) times they billed my card twice once putting me into over draught and it is a battle to get them to put back the extra payment, I argued with one of their people for almost and an hour and his answer was if I wanted to make a THIRD payment that month they would be able to refund the extra one they had taken. All I could say to him at that point was "How many shades of stupid are you?" I paid for my equipment outright and they tell me that if I stop my service now with only a few months of my two year contract left that I will owe them $300.00 early termination. I am so done with them as soon as my contract is over. Wish they would get cable out here, would almost be worth the extra money to pay to have it ran out here. Okay I feel a little better just being able to tell someone. :bawling:

I think they are trying to take on ppl who pirate movies/music and use the internet connection to do so. If you are just surfing the web, idk why they would shut you off after 200 mbs

SHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Dont say that! I just had Hughes.net installed two days ago. The phones lines to that house are WORTHLESS for dialup and there is no way in heck cable will ever be ran out there, so Hughes.net or WildBlue.net were my only choices.

Good Luck with them, I live where everyone is on either hughesnet or wild blue or dial up and I can't find one person who is at all happy with hughesnet. NOT ONE
I am going with wild blue once my contract with hughesnet is up, they also have a fair access policy but they allow you so much broadband per month I think it is, they don't so it by the day anyway. When I was talking to their rep day before yesterday he told me that 200 mb per day is plenty to read mail and surf. When I told him I can't even open e-mails with pictures of my grandbabies he basically said "So" I am just sooooo frustrated.

I have Verizon (the little thing you plug into your computer) and its not much better. You can only use 5K a month, and if you go over they charge you big time. Every morning at 3:15 you get bumped off and you might as well not try to get back on until 3:25. I can't use my Outlokk Express mail anymore either. They have their own mail service.

Hughesnet is horrible. I live way out in the country and dial up was awful so I went with HughesNet. It was terribly expensive, was off more than half of the time and was slow when it did work. I ended up using dial up more than I did HugesNet. Some of our locals worked a deal with orphan locations to get us DSL even though we live on top of a mountain with less than 400 people in our little town. As soon as it came I signed up and disconnected HughesNet. They wanted a huge fee to cancel so I continued paing for over a year just to protect my credit.

Been on hughesnet for almost two years and hate it. Sure it's always connected, and it's faster than dial up but not by much. The fair access policy, as they call it, is bull. Google them and you will find TONS of complaints, message boards dedicated to how horrible they are. The signal is so wishy washy, and when you call customer service it's always someone in some far away country who you can hardly understand. If you're thinking about getting I say don't bother. Cpbaby, I hope you have a better experience with them than I have...best of luck to you.

I no longer trust them with my debit card or credit cards so I mail my payments in and they charge me $5.00 more to do that, like paying 60.00 a month for only slightly better than dial up is not enough. And don't let even a whisp of a cloud blow by. I think their fair access policy should be in BIG bold letters on the page where you sign your life away to get their stinking service. Thanks for making me feel better, I know it sounds silly but I do feel better knowing they aren't just picking on me because I am mouthy when i am being treated like ShT.

Same here. AND they tell you---NO ONE uses 5K a month...Well, apparently we do. :slap

Whatever you do don't drop your contract early. My neighbor did that becasue all we could get out here was dialup and they charged her 600 some dollars for early termination. They do suck. We have gotten the Cricket wireless and have only had a few problems when it was being worked out or had an outage, but you call customer service and good to go. Its $40 a month, but much better than dial up and hughes.

How many months do you have left? If you have 20 months left of a 24 month contract and paying $60.00 a month you will be paying $1200.00 for the 20 months. If you really don't like Hughesnet (I was also thinking about it but not now) I would pay the $300.00 early termination and would be saving $900.00 (if my math is correct)

I did that with the satellite service I had. I paid the early termination fee and came out ahead and I am very happy that I did that.

Well,so far, so good. Its not as fast as the cable internet I had at the other house, but it is way faster than my sister's dialup(right down the road). Im pretty sure that I wont hit the limits because I am online MAYBE an hour a night. The only reason I am on here now is because I didnt get on here last night.

However, if it comes down to it, I will cancel it, pay the fees and chalk it up to lesson learned.

HughesNet is so far beyond horrible it's not even funny. They actually had the nerve to tell my husband that the only time they guarantee high speed is between 2 and 3 in the morning. All they would do was make us run speed test after speed test and transfer us to someone else in tech support who would once again make us run speed test after speed test. It was crazy. Dial up was actually faster than our HughesNet at the end. Never never never let anyone you know use them.
