We are trying to get enough money together to go to NY to see dh's sister.

I put our wii on craigslist last night. Dh had someone call him today about it, said she will be out in a few hours to get it. I asked 400 for the wii, 4 remotes, 2 nunchucks and 8 games, she didn't say anything about the price.

For that price we should be able to get up there and get back. Dh's sister already said we can stay with her so that will save a lot of money.

I am going to try to save as much money as I can, I am planning on leaving at night so we can get a lot of driving done while most people are sleeping (including the kids lol) We have a large cooler I am going to fill up with what we have here at the house, drinks, bread, some peanut butter and jelly, crackers.

I have some cookie mix I am going to make up and put in baggies. some cereal I am going to bag up for kids to snack on.

I have my lap top the kids can watch dvd's on, and they have plenty of coloring books and crayons.

What else can I do to save money?

Bottled water, lots of it. You can buy a 12 pack at the store for $3ish on sale, but at truck stops it is $1+ a bottle. Tooshie wipes, for quick hand washing, paper towels for spills. Asprins, remember that those convience packs are $1.50 for 2. Also, plan your route carefully and then use http://www.gasbuddy.com/ to find the cheapest gas in the area. Make sure you gas up at major brand places in big cities that have a lot of competition, it usually means competitive gas prices and decent quality. Make sure your tires are properly inflated for the best gas mileage. If your car uses oil, make sure to bring your own, as oil is $3 at truck stops ((or more))

We don't smoke so we don't have to worry about that, dh's parents smoke though but we are trying to talk them into quitting so I am not going to take them any.

I have been writing things down as I think of them (or I will forget) for things to get or do before we leave. We are planning on leaving either late tonight or in the early morning tomorrow.

I am not looking forward to the drive but can't wait to see everyone, I know we may not all get along but this is dh's family and I love them to.

I have one of those verizon wireless things for the laptop so I will be able to check weather, gas prices and emails while on the road.

Oh, I hope you guys have a great time.

Since you are bringing a cooler, freeze your bottles of water so that will save you on ice. Even if you buy ice, the frozen water will make the ice last longer, yet it does thaw for you to drink.
