Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of a toothache? I have had this sucker for a week, and nothing is working. The dentist gave me vicoden, but it only helps for about 20 minutes.
Any help would be appreciated!

What is the situation? Do you have a cavity? Or is it just pain? It could be infected, you might need antibiotic...

Oh man, I just went through that earlier in the week. If it's abcessed I use Ibuprofen and Sudafed. A lots and lots of ice to the affected area.

I went to the dentist, and they are going to do a root canal on monday. She gave me vicoden and antibiotics, so I am assuming its infected.

Until the antibiotics kick in I would take the vicoden. If it say's take 2 every 4 hours I usually take 1 every 2 hours so that you have a good hit every 2 hours. DO not add any Tylenol in the mix.
There's not much worse than a bad toothache... getting it taken care of ASAP is the only thing you can really do. Like SLance68 said, the antibiotics will help as soon as they kick in, but until then, there's not a whole lot you can do. I've been through this a few times... and used PLENTY of max strength OralGel, it helps a bit. GOOD LUCK !!! Hope you can get some sleep.

Go to your local cvs or wal-greens and look on their tooth care area. There is a little box and it is labeled as "Red cross tooth ache kit". It is a little tiny bottle of stuff that is basically just clove oil, and some little cotton pellets and some tweezers. Follow the instructions. I will go ahead and tell you that it tastes nasty and will actually hurt worse for a couple of seconds after you use it. But if you can make it through that couple of seconds it will be so worth it. Depending on how intense the pain is it may come back sooner than it should. I have used this before with toothaches as well as with a dry socket, and it was the best thing I have found.

I was wondering what that stuff was! I talked to the pharmacist and he told me that I can take ibuprofen with it, and it would stop any swelling if there was any, but when I took some, I got the cold sweats and started feeling really sick, so I wont do that together again LOL. Thanks for all your help guys! I really do appreciate it. I just cant wait until Monday.

Ibuprofen works better than most narcotics for a toothache.

I ha 2 teeth pulled on thursday and I have one more to go. My mouth is sore but getting better. Nothing worse than and infection involving your teeth or mouth. Red cross is so nasty but works so well.
Good luck.

It must be the week for teeth. I had extensive work done on a back molar and then had a bridge put in. That back tooth that I spent soooo much money on is now infected again (after a root canal already) so now I have to see an endodontist and have it retreated or basically root canal through the bridge. I am also on antibiotics but they aren't helping much yet and its day 3. I don't get it worked on until July 7th!

I tell you, a toothache can hurt like a mo-fo. Like a birth pain in your mouth.

This has worked for me....
1 tablespoon Baking soda
1 tablespoon unrefined sea salt
1 cup warm water
1/4 antiseptic mouthwash
Take baking soda and sea salt mix with cup of warm water. Then rinse mouth by swishing it around, use whole cup. Afterwards use the mouthwash swishing it around.
It really has worked for me and a few friends. Hope this helps.

omg! i am in so much pain right now. i feel like i have been hit by a bus. they tried doing the root canal yesterday, and only could get half way done. the antibiotics worked some, but the infection was still there, so they decided to drain it (i know gross). all they dig after drilling was plug it up and tell me to come back thurs.

Have you tried holding warm salt water in your mouth for a minute or so? It can really make a difference with some dental pain.
Hope you feel better real soon!

I had to go to the emergency room years ago because of this stuff. I got so sick from it. I can eat ham with cloves, so I'm not sure why I got sick from it. But try the salt water first. You will be surprised at how well it works.
Nothing worse then a toothache!
