I am going to go get one next week since both of us have a laptop now. What do you recommend???

Is it true that all I have to do is take the cord that plugs into my laptop and plug that into the router?? IS it really that easy??

NOPE!
It's wireless! It (the laptop) will find it!
make sure the router is password protected, so no outsiders can access your connection.
you will need that password to get the wireless signal from the router.

i just put one on this past weekend and it is a linksys and just as good as any other one...cost me $80 but the others were higher. You just plug 2 ethernet cables into it and run the disk that comes with it and it sets up your settings to it. It is really easy.

I had to replace my Belkin router yesterday as it decided to die overnight. It was a few years old, so I suppose it had reached its life expectancy. I haven't found it necessary to spend more than $40 for a router to achieve the desired results. My replacement router is a Dynex, which Best Buy had priced at $34.99. Routers are normally quite easy to setup, so call tech support if needed. I had to call tech support for an $80 Dynex my cousin purchased in January as it wouldn't allow us to connect to the internet. Tech support finally established that the router just wasn't compatible with her modem/laptop, so she returned it for a cheaper model that worked without issue. As others mentioned, definitely establish a secure network. I use the WPA-TSK (TKIP) security setting, which is as secure as my router would allow.

Good luck!

We had a Belkin wireless router and had nothing but trouble. Last week we caught a Linksys on sale for $50 and grabbed it, all the problems went away. I'd go with Linksys or NetGear.

I have a Linksys router around the house, if I can find it I will send it to you for the price of shipping. My internet service provider gave me one when I changed over, so I dont need two

If you're buying one, I would probably suggest Netgear. My first one pooped out on me after a very short period of time. I tried a Linksys, but the signal did not reach as far. So I went back to Netgear - the exact same kind as my first one - and it's been good since.

And yes, definitely put security on it so that people cannot park in your driveway and use your wireless connection. They would also be able to access your files on your computers if it's not secured.

It shouldn't be hard to install, but if you get stuck, call the support number on the package. They will walk you through it. (Free for usually 90 days or so.)

Best of luck!

I can honestly say if you AT&T it is not easy to set up wireless. I have just boxed up a router and a cat5 cable I am going to return as soon as I quit spitting nails. I finally just gave up and packed it back up - it was impossible to set up one using AT&T without killing one of their tech people. So good luck going wireless I am just going to have one of the guys at the office make me a VERY long cat 5 cable and my laptop will be wired.

I bought the cheapest Walmart had to offer, Netgear and it works great for my Ipod Touch that gets Wifi. I think it cost me $32.

It was easy to hook up!

My son had one he got from radioshack, and it was really easy to set up, he just ran the wires from the router to our computer. He had internet service on his laptop, and he had friends next door, and they used our internet service all the time.
