IthinkNOT!

Who has read this? I have a homework assignment to analyze the figurative conflicts in this, but I am really not getting this.
I am thinking that the conflict may be identity, because the story states that "Everything about her had two sides, one for home and one for anywhere that was not home". I am thinking this is kind of a coming of age thing, and that the "at home" identity is her as a child, while the not at home identity is the adult her. And that Connie leaving with Arnold is the resolution?
But it doesn't quite make sense, what am I missing?
