So for the past few days I have been monitoring the 2 year old beardies tank because 2 year old beardies are the equivalent of horny teenagers. I have 4 two year olds (Kiwi ,Ziggy, Rebel and Shep)

I have to make sure that the 3 of them do not 'tag' Kiwi.. Because she is the only girl.

Rebel and Shep are doing the normal things that horny teenage lizards do. Like head bobbing and trying to bite the necks of who ever is closest.. Nothing major just normal lizard behavior

Ziggy for some reason does not do the head bobbing like a normal boy lizard would. So I was just sitting here and I got to thinking... I picked up Ziggy to 'check' and make sure he is a boy because before they are a year and a half you can sometimes kind of tell if they are boys or girls by just looking at their heads and bodies.. The 'peeper' test you cannot really tell until they are about a year old... Last I looked Ziggy looked like he had a 'peeper'

Yeeaaah so I just looked... Ziggy is a girl...

Now how did I do this again? Kermit was named before I found out he was a she...

:slap :slap :slap

I can already hear what my dh is going to say.... He is just going to laugh at me for an hour because I was sure Ziggy (now Ziggi) was a boy and I got all adamant about it.

*sigh

Imagine being told by a reptile expert that your one Iguana is a Boy the other a girl and then watching the "Boy"; Richie lay eggs.

Dont beat yourself up about it, even the experts and this one had been a vet at a zoo and made the error.

I hope the teens are not driving you too batty.

Do you not want them to 'tag'? Are they like like widow spiders...bye, bye male? :shrug

Forgive me, as I have not been following the beardie saga....;)

hehe

Nope not like spiders at all :) However they will eat the babies so the eggs are removed.

I am controlling the population right now. Since the market is in the shizzer I do not have any shops in the area buying babies right now.. They are still a bit too small to have fertile eggs right now so I may be safe for a little while.

The only 'couple' I have together are Zeus and Maya because Maya was already paired with a mate. Zulu died so I didn't want her to get lonely

Small update

Ziggi has an eggy belly... So more proof she is a she.. They are fake eggs so I am not worried about over population.
Females don't need a male to make eggs. Kinda like birds.

It's good that you found out, our bird was supposed to be a male, but for a male he sure lays a heck of a lot of eggs.
