I was going to say that. The Escorts were never very reliable cars. The only thing good Ford ever made were their trucks and the Mustang.

Lemon law is Federal but it is for NEW cars only. Sorry you are having problems with your car. I have bought cars that ended up being more problems than they were worth. If there are 500 good cars on a car lot I will buy the bad one.

When you buy a car from anybody (unless it is new) you should take it to a trusted mechanic and have them check it out before you buy it. If they don't let you have the car checked out don't buy it... I don't know why people do not do their research on who they buy their car from... You find out they have a neg. list a BBB after the fact. You should have researched them before.. It's a costly mistake.

RI's lemon law covers not only new cars but used from dealers and not private parties

My friend almost got stuck with a lemon the same way,we made her take the car to the our mechanic and he found out that the transmission was going bad plus other things was wrong with the car. She ended up getting a Buick with no problems and cheaper from a private owner who mother died and he wanted to get rid of the car.

I am a little smart when it comes to that. I DID take it to 2 different mechanics plus my brother looked at it. All THREE said it needed plugs and wires and that was IT!! I figured it I only had to put that into it, it would be cool. Cost me a big $18.00 and she ran pretty for 2 days.

I am sure this was not wrong with it when I first bought it and it's just my luck that it started going so soon.

I betcha the next time I ever think about buying a car. I will invest the $70.00 and put it on one of them machines.

I had the car over 3 hours driving it and everything before I even bought it so it was not any kind of impulse buy. I am smarter than that.

Just really pissed off that I am now without a fricken car again!!

I got a car with my tax return which is the only time I ever have any extra money. I bought a 95 escort with only 86,000 miles on it. 7 days later my lifters are going out in the engine. I am pissed!!!!! I paid 2 grand for this junk and still owe them $300 for the tax and tags.

A 95 with that few of miles on it throws up a red flag for me. I would check with your SOS(DMV) and see what the miles were on it when the dealer got it. If there is a discrepancy, you will definately have a case against him, and he will HAVE to take it back.

Thanks I will check out that site. You are not the first person to say that!! I called DMV last week and the last time it was registered with the miles was in 2000 and there was 30,000 something. Once the car is 10 years old, they don't require them to list the miles on the titles.

Sorry you have to deal with this. MA has the same lemon law as RI. The "as is" sale doesn't cut it here. I remember years ago when I sold my "mommy car" it was 10 years old and had only 44,000 milds on it. I was questioned about it when I traded it in. I drove 4 miles round trip to my job and worked part-time when they were young.

I just went through the same type of deal. we bought a 2000 chevy malibu on craigslist was supposed to run great come with new battery etc etc... my hubby is pretty car smart so he looked it over really well and then test drove it.

we bought it and brought it home, my hubby drove it for a whole 30 min before it broke down. Seriously, 30 min. it needed a new fuel pump which i am sure the jack@ss knew when he sold it to us plus he took the new battery out before we got the car.

my hubby had to pay 250 for the new fuel pump, and asked the guy to pay half and he refused and he also refused to give us the battery that was in the ad. No go. GRRR....

I am stuck in your situation, dont know what to do. Hoping Karma bites the guy in the balls honestly.

Lemon law or not... I would call some kind of legal aid, maybe if you get someone to help you put some heat on that dealership they would at the very least not do it to other people.

I would probaly end up in jail over this situation if it were me.

Is it possible to complain to the BBB, and get them to help you, against that car dealer. there should be some kind of way, that the dealer ether take that car back or fix it. contact the News agencys and see if they will do a story on you and your car, and the car dealer. aren't you on a fixed income?? I think the News people may be able to help you, cause no car dealer, wants to be shown up as a thief. I seriously feel for you. can you call court tv and tell them your story to see if they will help you also. I am really trying to think of a few more things for you, cause that is really a bunch of bull****!!!! Reading your post, made me mad and feel as if I had been robbed.

i am sorry this happened to you. i know in my experience (i'm gettin old) that if i ever purchase a car that old it would have to be toyota, nissan, or a honda. i just wouldn't trust a Ford or a chevy that old. i don't know how the dealer who sold you the car can sleep at night knowing he's screwing unsuspecting people out of money on these bad cars.

She refused the warranty. The dealership will bring that up and will win if she tries legal action.

I'm sorry Renrut. I didn't MEAN any disrespect. I didn't. I just think that was a high price. And I do know is some states (even without a warranty) they still have to give you 3 days. Unfortunately yours was outside that window. Have you spoken to them at all about maybe working out for a trade? I know some places might do that. If you threaten BBB they might work something out with you. Help pay to fix it or something. It never hurts to try. You would not be out anything.

The BBB will ONLY help if the dealership has paid the blood money (membership fee) to the BBB. They will take your report but it is useless.

The 3 days on a contract DOES NOT apply to car deals. Only if she had bought it at a dealership that offered that service - the only one I know of is Carmax.

I would try to talk to an attorney through legal aid like someone suggested. Lemon laws are against all car dealerships used and new. I would try my best to make him pay. I bought three different cars through one used dealership and if anything went wrong with my car in the first 90 days they honored it and fixed it. They offered no warranty but they did fix the stuff. They had there own mechanic. But they didn't charge me any labor and only half parts. Twice they did that . Then after the 90 days they still were reasonable. But there was another dealership my dh liked they reamed him a new one a couple of times. Finally the guy really tried to stick it to him over a truck that he was going to buy but changed his mind because the guy really was trying to suck extra money out of the deal, so my dh told him to go to H---. He hasn't dealt with them ever again. Anyway sorry for the book but I know where you are coming from because of the one dh dealt with. I hope that you can get them to fix it for you.

Thanks guys. No I didn't take it offensive. Actually this is my first time back in here in awhile.

I've called everyone I could and basically I am just stuck. I guess they have been on the news several times for other things. They got into big trouble with titles and stuff but I got mine in the mail the other day so that won't be a problem for me.

I am gonna try going there with my ex tom. He's a 6 foot 7 big black guy and see if I get anywhere with him lmao.

The 3 day rule only applies to items bought in your home. Kirby, tipperware etc..... That's the first thing I looked up cause everyone around me said it would work.

I can't take him to court cause I refused the nonsense warranty when I got the crap. The blue book value was more than what I paid for it. The car doesn't even have a scratch on it.

My aunt got a paper in the mail tday with a guys number so I am gonna call him. He looks into vehicles with suspicious miles on it. That is my only hope at this time.

The jerks won't even let me slide on the remaining amount I owe them so I got screwed twice.

Thanks again guys!!!

Just want everyone to know, I have a 93 ford tempo that still runs like a top. So it is possible for an older ford to be a good car. We don't drive it anymore, it is our old reliable car that we always have around when someone needs to have a car while theres is being fixed. I've had it since 95, and have always done all the maintenance on as needed, it has 145,000 on it and will probably outlast all my other cars ill ever have.
I don't feel like you paid too much for that car like others have said, you just got screwed by a dishonest dealer!
I really hope everything works out for you.!!!!

So, my car has been at the shop since last Tuesday for the different engine. It would have been $1300 to fix the problem so it was just better to put a different engine in it. It comes with a one year and or 70,000 miles parts and labor warranty. The engine was $1900 included everything.

I've been fighting with them for a week now cause it was supposed to be done a week ago but due to their other delays and what not I still don't have it.

She calls me today to tell me that my cooling fan isn't working. After a huge arugment with her, she said the mechanice noticed that when He drove it into the stall. I went off and said then why didn't anyone let me kmow then instead of when I was coming to get it in a hour!!!!

I was fed up so I called my dad and had him deal with it. They were not on my good side to begin with!!

He calls me back and said it's a good thing we didn't get the lifters fixed cause the head gasket was blown. He wrote up a list of stuff sunshine auto did to the car just to get it sold!!

He said to take it to them and if they won't budge, take them to court and call him as a witness!!

Ohhhhh back to the whole point lol. I said my cooling fan was workign cause I wasn't running hot and the only reason I put a diff engine in it cause I couldn't go faster than 35 and it was knocking real loud. That's when he proceeded to tell my dad all the stuff they did to the car just to get it sold.

Something about sealing the engine and the oil pressure level. He knew what he was tlaking about though. he said he found all kinds of stuff.

So, he said he will try and get it done today but prob tomorrow.

Check the law for your state, because as with anything they vary. Some states cover all cars sold with KNOWN problems that were not reported to the buyer but may have time limitations. In the future, I would have a private mechanic do an inspection before buying a car without a warranty. It's alot cheaper in the long run. Good Luck!
