This will probably end up moved to the neener neener section but DD was accepted into the duke tips program last year and as a 7th grader got to take the ACT test. She got a 18 out of 38 and I though cool beans. But we got a letter the other fay and apparently out of the 7th graders who took the test she was in the top 5% so what that means is she will be allowed to take one of their 3 week summer courses. She has the choice of Appalachian State University or Kansas State University. She is thrilled since she is interested in medicine and one of the courses is intro to medicine. Here is a link to the info on it and the other courses offered. Since it's sop late in the summer she won't even miss summer softball. http://www.tip.duke.edu/summer.html#scoreTable

Congrats to her! Back in the day at the same age, DS did a similar thing at a program with the CTY at John's Hopkins. They took SAT's instead of ACTs. He got to go down to Baltimore for a couple of weeks.
I know how selective these programs are and you smust be so proud of her! WTG to your DD and to the proud mom!

I am insanely proud of her. She started buying time life health books at garage sales at the age of three. She has always had a large interest in medicine and this will further her goals in getting into med school in college. I am not going to lie I am worried about her being gone for 3 weeks since she hasn't been away from home more than a night or two since she was a baby. I got shingles when she was 6 months old and I had to send her to my moms for a while til I wasn't contagious but I know how important this can be for her future. I may have to stay in a hotel for a while in Kansas just to make sure she will be ok though. LOL

****update****
Well we got the acceptance for financial aid in the mail yesterday on this and they will pay $3200 of the $3300 tuition. I talked to the school coordinator for the Johnson O'Malley (Indian program) at softball practice and they will pay the remaining $100 for us because it is a science course he got into. he was accepted into the cell biology course. So it's a done deal she's going. We also got a different letter from them saying her score was high enough to get to go to the state award program in Tulsa later this spring. :dancing::dancing:

Yay! Congrats! She's going to love it! DS had the time of his life when he did his program. He enjoyed being with kids of like mind. The 3 weeks will drag by for you but will be done in the blink of an eye for her. It's been years since CTY and he's still friends with a couple kids he met there 13 years later. The state awards program is a thing to behold. DS's was done at Boston U and they go all out for the kids.
What a great opportunity. I'm happy for you guys.
