Two Girl Scouts and their troop leader were robbed as they sold cookies outside a San Antonio store, reports say.

The 9-year-old girls were packing up after hours of selling cookies outside a Walgreens in the city's North Side on Wednesday night when a man approached and stole their money, about $250, WOAI.com reports. No injuries were reported.

"Both little girls are scared," the troop leader, who did not want to be identified, told WOAI.com. "And they've learned, firsthand, there are bad people out there."

The suspect was inside the store prior to the theft and police are now reviewing surveillance video, WOAI.com reports.

"I try to teach the girls that nothing's given, you have to earn it," the troop leader told WOAI.com. "And they earned that money."

That is why money is kept in a fanny pack on a Leader's person and as we get larger amounts beyond what we need for making change, we go and place it in the locked glovebox of the locked car.

Poor kids....

That's just plain sad that anyone would be that low. I was a scout when I was younger. NO ONE EVER THOUGHT/DREAMED OF TAKING OUR MONEY.

I did buy 10 boxes of cookies the other day from a little girl in our neighborhood. Hopefully they'll be here soon....Aggie keeps asking me about them.

Not to get off topic...but they're expensive now. I think when I sold them they were .75 a box. Inflation, inflation, inflation.....

The cookie money thieves were arrested yesterday, a 19yr old guy and a 30yr old woman. The TV news report I heard said the money has been returned.

SAN ANTONIO -- It was a story News 4 WOAI broke and a case that's gotten national attention. Two 3rd grade girls were selling cookies outside a Walgreen's store in the Medical Center area when a man took off with all their money.

Police arrested 19-year-old Ricky Thatcher and 30-year-old Nicole Strickland at a hotel near IH-35 and O'Connor on the Northeast Side.

News 4 WOAI's Aubrey Mika Chancellor was at police headquarters when the pair was brought in Thursday afternoon.

When asked if she had anything to say, Nicole Strickland said, "I didn't know what was happening." When asked if he had anything to say at all, Thatcher told News 4 WOAI's crew to "Get out of my face."

Both Thatcher and Strickland denied they had anything to do with the Girl Scout cookie-money theft. But, police say the pair was caught on surveillance video right before the money was taken. As he was escorted away, Thatcher told News 4 WOAI police have the wrong person. But officers say last week the couple were at the Walgreens store where the little girls were selling cookies, and that Thatcher made off with the girls’ bag of money.

Thatcher and Strickland were charged with stealing $250 from the two Girl Scouts.

"This male suspect came out of the store with the female,” said Sgt. Gabe Trevino of the San Antonio Police Department. "The female went to the car. The male stayed by the table. And the male grabbed the money off the table."

As the pair got into a car and drove off, the girl's troop leader made sure she got the license plate number. Police say they traced the plate number to the owner of the car. That owner then helped investigators find the suspects who borrowed the car and drove off with the money.

"Certainly, if they're willing to steal from Girl Scouts, then, I think they're much more willing to steal from anyone else who affords them the opportunity," added Sgt. Trevino.

Thatcher made bond early Friday, but Strickland remains behind bars.

News 4 WOAI spoke with the Girl Scout organization Thursday afternoon. They are very happy the arrests were made and wanted to thank the community for all the support and donations they have received over the past week.

I have been really worried that this kind of thing would start to happen. I am glad they caught the persons who did it.

A similar incident happen here a couple years ago. Some Boy Scouts were robbed while operating a Christmas tree stand in a parking lot of a local mall.
