SC Governor: We're moving close to 'a savior-based economy' (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/02/08/sc-governor-were-moving-close-to-a-savior-based-economy/)
WASHINGTON (CNN) – As many state and local officials clamor for their share of the billions of dollars in federal aid in the stimulus bill under consideration in Washington, South Carolina’s Republican governor is sounding a note of dissent about federal efforts to help the economy.
“A problem that was created by building up of too much debt will not be solved with yet more debt,” Gov. Mark Sanford said Sunday, making a reference to the federal deficit spending that will likely finance the federal stimulus package.
“We’re moving precipitously close to what I would call a savior-based economy,” Sanford also said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.
The South Carolina Republican said such an economy is “what you see in Russia or Venezuela or Zimbabwe or places like that where it matters not how good your product is to the consumer but what your political connection is to those in power.”
“That is quite different than a market-based economy where some rise and some fall but there’s a consequence to making a stupid decision,” Sanford said after pointing to the powers granted to the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve to help deal with the current economic crisis.
“A lot of people who’ve made some very stupid decisions are being bailed out by the population at large,” he added.
Instead of bailing out failing companies, Sanford told CNN’s John King that the government should let the economy work through the current challenges without intervention.
“We’re going to go through a process of deleveraging,” Sanford said. “And it will be painful. The question is: Do we apply a bunch of different band aids that lengthen and prolong this pain or do we take the band aid off? I believe very strongly: let’s get this thing over with, let’s not drag it on.”
Although Sanford was critical of the federal government’s efforts to get the economy back on track, he equivocated when asked whether he would turn down money in the stimulus package intended for South Carolina which he would control.”
“I think that ultimately we’ll decide that question when we get to it,” the governor said.
gee -- is that like what they told the automakers?? Can't see throwing good money after the bad???

Troops enlisted to cheer Obama spendulus plan?
Did you notice the applauding troops placed strategically behind President Obama during his Generational Theft Act rally in Elkhart this afternoon?

“Isn’t it inappropriate to use them in uniform for a political purpose?”
Only if you’re a Republican. And remember: Crusading for a trillion-dollar pork plan isn’t “political.”
It’s patriotic.

My syndicated column today covers the cult of entitlement. One interesting footnote about Henrietta Hughes’ home donor that I forgot to note yesterday. Chene Thompson is a Republican? I explore President Obama’s choice of Ft. Myers for his second stimulus revival meeting rally. Brian Sullivan explains why the people of Elkhart, Indiana who welcomed Obama for the first stimulus revival meeting really ought to think twice.

Barack Obama’s savior-based economy
by Michelle Malkin
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/11/barack-obamas-savior-based-economy/
President Obama is back in messianic campaign mode. It is unbecoming. When he’s not snarling at conservative opponents of his endless spending programs, he’s pandering to supporters as the nation’s community organizer-in-chief. At a stimulus rally in Ft. Myers, Florida on Tuesday, a woman named Henrietta Hughes stood up to decry the mortgage crisis and ask Obama for his personal help. Choking back tears, she implored: “I have an urgent need…We need a home, our own kitchen, our own bathroom.”
If she had more time, she probably would have remembered to ask Obama to fill up her gas tank, too. The soul-fixer dutifully asked her name, gave her a hug, and ordered his staff to meet with her. Supporters cried “Amen!” and “Yes!” A young McDonald’s worker named Julio bolted out of his seat and exclaimed: “It is such a blessing to see you. Oh! Gracious God, thank you so much! Ungh!”
The event turned into a full-blown revival meeting when Obama announced that the Senate had passed his massive stimulus plan. Audience members erupted into applause. Tongues of fire descended from the sky. Loaves and fishes (or rather, pork and Kool-Aid) multiplied miraculously into trillions for all. GOP Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina didn’t know how right he was when he warned over the weekend: “We’re moving precipitously close to what I would call a savior-based economy.”
Like Mighty Mouse, President Obama is here to save the day. The government is here to help – and it is your patriotic duty to pay for it all without preconditions. Henrietta Hughes didn’t explain the cause of her financial turmoil. Obama didn’t ask. And if we conservatives dare to question the circumstances – and the underlying assumption that it is government’s (that is, taxpayers’) role to bail her out – we’ll be lambasted as cruel haters of the downtrodden.
Woe unto ye unbelievers in Big Government who cling to what Obama derided as “ideological rigidity.”
Well, pardon my unbending belief in fairness and personal responsibility, but why should my tax dollars go to feed the housing entitlement beast? At his fear-mongering press conference Monday night, President Obama lamented that homeowners “are seeing their property values decline.” Countrywide crony Sen. Chris Dodd successfully stuffed $50 billion into the just-passed stimulus package for the Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to spend on “mandatory loan modifications” for homeowners deep under water on their mortgages. That’s in addition to the $20 billion already allocated by the House last month for the same purposes.
Banks have been engaged in these “mo mod” programs over the past year. The Democrats want to accelerate the pace and use the power of government to essentially provide a blanket amnesty for borrowers and lenders who made bad financial decisions. Yes, there are many responsible borrowers out there having trouble negotiating loan modifications. But this $50 billion giveaway to the banks — on top of the upwards of $2 trillion more from the Treasury Department, on top of the $700 billion in original “TARP” funding — is throwing more bad money after bad.
This massive expansion of government meddling in the housing market — yet another attempt to get federal bureaucrats in the business of rewriting loan contracts and reducing principal — will just delay the inevitable. A report released by the Comptroller of the Currency in December showed that more than half of loans modified in the first quarter of 2008 fell 30 days delinquent within six months. And after six months, 35% of people were 60 or more days behind on their payments.
Where’s the fairness in forcing prudent homeowners and renters to subsidize people who bought overpriced houses and rescue the banks who lent to them?
Tellingly, Obama chose Ft. Myers to drum up support for his wealth redistributionism. The area has been one of the hardest hit by foreclosures, as the president was quick to point out. But many of those homes are second or third homes and investment properties. And low housing prices are not a catastrophe for everyone. They’ve created opportunities for Americans who haven’t been able to buy in an artificially inflated market. The median sales price of a home in the Ft. Myers area fell 50 percent to $106,900, from $215,200 in December 2007. Bargain-priced home sales are up 146 percent from a year ago.
It’s sacrilegious to say it in the Age of Obama, but it needs to be said: Home ownership is not an entitlement. Credit is not a civil right. Your property-value preservation is not my problem. Can I get an “Amen!?”
The Cost of the Porkulus: $233,000 per job created or “saved.”
$30,000 in federal debt for every household in America.
This is what LGM and the other socialists are cheering for.

The Socialist Party candidate for President of the US , Norman Thomas, said this in a 1944 speech:”The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of “liberalism,” they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” He went on to say: “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform.”
“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

Henrietta Hughes gets a house
February 10, 2009 04:31 PM
Ask at an Obama revival meeting and ye shall receive: http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090210/OBAMA/90210038
Henrietta Hughes was offered a home by Chene Thompson, wife of State Representative Nick Thompson, who heard the homeless woman’s pleas for help to President Obama before a local and national crowd.
The house is in LaBelle, the first home [Chene] Thompson bought after law school. She told Hughes, “Just give me the opportunity to help you.”
Hughes broke down in front of thousands when she told the president that she and her son have been homeless for more than a year. They are living in a pickup truck.
Obama hugged her after she asked her question and said his staff would help. A staffer later gave her a card to the head of the housing authority and she was told he would help her.
Reader Erik E. has questions. Careful, Erik. You are committing sacrilege. Dissent is unpatriotic. And cruel.
You know you cannot just “enter” an Obama town hall meeting. They give out tickets in advance. Who gets the tickets? People who stand in line and wait. Who tells people when and where Obama will appear next? Certainly not the Secret Service who has to protect this man. Not the MSM, who are too busy telling us how great he is without asking any critical questions.
Sooooo… how does a 61 year-old homeless woman who’s living in a pickup truck with her son JUST HAPPEN to get a ticket so she can VERY PUBLICALLY ask Prez. Obama for a HOUSE? Anyone? Who pushes her up on stage? She’s right at the front of the crowd. Did she just happen to get a seat there?
Now, within moments of this happening, it’s trumpeted all over the news. AND, surprise, surprise, the wife of State Representative Nick Thompson, Chene Thompson JUST HAPPENS to have a spare house worth $150,000 lying around, so she GIVES it to this unemployed, homeless, living-in-a-truck woman. They’ve been homeless for “more than a year”, which coincidentally, predates the current housing and banking crisis by quite a while. How did they learn about the “Obama Town Hall and Tent Revival”? Were homeless people simply rounded up? Did someone pre-canvas the area in search of “great, tear-jerking stories”? Of all the people in the audience, SHE’S one of the ones Obama chooses to ask a question?
BTW-the taxes which will be charged on this “free house” will bankrupt the poor woman. Taxes are levied based on the home’s assessed value, not on the basis of it being a “free gift”.
On a second, double-snort, the last guy who gets to ask a question JUST HAPPENS to be a 19-year-old kid of Hispanic descent who’s going to Edison State College (free tuition perhaps for in-state students?) and has worked at McDonalds for FOUR AND A HALF YEARS. By my math, he started working there when he was 14! Florida child-labor law infraction, anyone? Now, having worked at McDs several times in my past I can say that they DO offer health care plans. You have to PAY for it, just like everyone else in the country does. It’s OPTIONAL. It’s not a God-given right.
…Do the Thompsons get to claim this as a charitable tax deduction against their (probably) considerable 2009 income? How many houses do they own?
Is there anyone left in the media who will ask these questions? Ever?
Silence! Do not question Dear Leader.

And now : Julio gets a job[/i]
http://news-press.com/article/20090211/OBAMA/90210071/1075
The savior-based economy comes through again. Obama cult worshiper Julio — the McDonald’s worker in Ft. Myers who complained about his benefits yesterday at the president’s revival meeting — has a new gig.
“I have never felt this good except maybe when I got my Playstation3 for Christmas.”
Then came his interviews with CNN, other networks and local TV stations. “I couldn’t believe it,” his mother, Sarah, said. “He worked really hard at that. He is like that, he doesn’t plan, he just does it.”
He also picked up another job — if just for a day — as the color announcer for the Fort Myers Miracle baseball team’s radio broadcast for its home opener April 10. The one-day gig typically pays $25, but the Miracle said the salary is negotiable. “I’ll be ready,” he said about his debut.
After all, Osegueda is studying to be a broadcaster or disc jockey.
Move over, Olbermann. Here comes Julio.
White House says Obama did not talk to Cape teen
By Terry Brady,
February 11, 2009
A Cape Coral teenager, who said he spoke to President Barack Obama for a second time today, appears to be the victim of a joke or a big misunderstanding.
Julio Osegueda said during an interview with a Phoenix radio station today that he had another conversation with the president. Osegueda, through a lot of jumping and shouting, was able to ask the president the final question during his visit and town hall meeting in Fort Myers on Tuesday.
Today, KNIX radio station in Phoenix called Osegueda for an interview. The station, according to Osegueda, also said it had a surprise guest on the phone. The station told Osegueda it was Obama. Osegueda said he had about a 10-minute conversation today with the president.
But a White House spokesperson said whomever was on the phone with the teenager was not the president. The spokesperson confrimed President Obama never made a call to the Phoenix station.
Calls to KNIX have not been returned with an answer for the confusion.
Osegueda said he was convinced it was the president.
"It was the craziest thing,” said Osegueda, 19. “I just spoke to the president.”
“He said he was getting more phone calls and publicity about me than his stimulus package,” Osegueda said.
“He said he likes Big Macs and apple pies."

Borders’ Obamessiah moment
February 16, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/02/16/borders-obamessiah-moment/
What section would a bookstore put some junior-reader biographies of Barack Obama? A Borders store in Dallas found the perfect spot (via Mitch Berg and Psycmeister):
http://hotair.cachefly.net/images/2009-02/borders-messiah1.jpg
http://hotair.cachefly.net/images/2009-02/borders-messiah1.jpg
WND contacted Borders’ national office and got this response:
Borders corporate spokeswoman Ann Roman told WND there was no intention on the part of the staff to associate books about the Obamas with religion. “We are a completely politically neutral organization,” she said. “As you can imagine we carry every political perspective, authors from both parties. What happened here is those books were for kids and they were put under an overarching sign. Our team did not mean to imply an inappropriate classification,” she said.
Maybe they didn’t have any childrens’ books for their religion section and they needed to fill the space. After all, what book stores carry religious books? Why, I’ve never seen anything like childrens’ Bibles or faith-based stories.
Or, maybe, some Borders employee is taking The One a weeeeeeee bit too seriously — as a lot of Americans have done over the last two years.
Alternate explanation, from commenter Number 2: satire, poking fun at Obamalytes by classifying their adoration as a belief system.

Obama cultist of the day[celor=red]
Do not read this on a full stomach.
You have been warned:[/color]
“I see him like he’s my own son, and not in a funny way, either,” Dorothy Tisdale, a 73-year-old Peorian, said in reference to President Obama. She was the same woman who, after Obama’s motorcade passed her, said the experience was “better than having sex.” (Source: Peoria Journal Star http://www.pjstar.com/news/x1361264034/Word-on-the-Street-Guess-who-got-left-off-invite-list )
“I see him like he’s my own son, ... the same woman who, after Obama’s motorcade passed her, said the experience was “better than having sex.”
Thanks for that lovely mental picture.
:puke:
“I see him like he’s my own son..."
I wonder what her other children have to say about The One being their brother?
“better than having sex.”
She obviously has a very boring love life....
But seriously, folks, this is just a little too much “worship” of a human being, President though he may be, for me.
I think some people had worked themselves up to such hatred of our previous President that they may have had this kind of attitude toward whoever his successor turned out to be . . . provided that successor promised to be the ideological opposite of GWB, of course. Hence the worshipful attitude such as this lady or the stalkerish woman mouthing “I love you” at the town hall meeting.
Some of these people are downright skeery .... :lightingbolt:

Imagine the ACLU-led uproar if this suspended trooper had e-mailed photos mocking George Bush and Republicans on his own time and on his own computer
Iowa Trooper Suspended For Obama E-Mail
E-Mail Made Disparaging Remarks About 'Obama Fan Base'
Feb 9 09
OMAHA, Neb. -- An Iowa State trooper who was investigated after it was shown that he forwarded an e-mail showing mug shots of people wearing Obama t-shirts has been suspended for 30 days.
Sgt. Rodney Hicok was at home and off-duty when he forwarded the e-mails, said an official with the Iowa Department of Public Safety Bureau and Professional Standards.
The e-mail made disparaging remarks about 15 people in the photos and referred to Obama as having "quite a fan base."
Hicok was not making a racial statement, the official said, but, rather, a political statement.
In a statement, Hicok said, "I am deeply sorry for my actions … I apologize to anyone this e-mail may have offended, as well as my family, citizens in my community and Iowa taxpayers."
Hicok ended his statement by saying he guaranteed "nothing like this will ever happen again."
"I regret what happened and wish I could take it back," Hicok said in the statement.
He violated the department's policy and his permanent file will reflect the suspension, the official said.
The 27-year veteran, who has no prior offense on his record, will also attend DPS training on policies and procedures.
http://www.ketv.com/news/18585512/detail.html
The email itself even got a mention on snopes.com back in January.

Not sure the details on why forwarding an email from your own computer on your own time brings a guy such attention and even disciplinary action…
He has to go to DPS training on policies and procedures?????? What a crock!
