That time of year again. I just ordered mine from a friend's daughter.
What is your favorite?

Here is a link that shows you what kind they have, not all kinds are available in all areas. There are a couple I have never heard of before.
WARNING: REAL PICTURES! you will want cookies after seeing this!

We ordered the shortbread and the caramel ones. We stayed away from the peanutbutter this year cause of all the recalls around here.

Good point! I didn't even think of that.
I'm not a big peanut butter fan anyway. Only if it is between two cheese crackers.

I can no longer eat them because they're not gluten free but I long for a Tagalong or a Samoa.

Just to let you know, the peanut butter ones are safe. My girls are both in Girl Scouts and I have a disclaimer stating their safe if anyone wants to see it.

And I voted Thin Mints, but those and the Tag-A-Longs are my favorites. I will be buying both this year.

Peanut Butter Safety in Girl Scout® Cookies
LOUISVILLE, KY – The peanut butter used in all Little Brownie Bakers Girl Scout® cookie products is not sourced from the supplier involved in the current peanut butter recall.

Every year Girl Scouts work hard to try to sell as many boxes as they can.

"You can go on trips, and it can help pay for your trips," said Girl Scout Abby Mullan.

But this year, Girl Scout leaders admit something is different about their cookies. The cookie boxes have shrunk and so have the number of cookies in the boxes.

"It's shorter. It's smaller. It's an ounce less," laughs customer Suzanne Taylor
But the prices have not changed.

"I could have bought a big thing of Oreos for three bucks," adds other customer Wendy Smoot.

Colleen Walker, the CEO for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, said they had to do it.

"Cocoa, sugar and flour have gone up a minimum of 30 percent in the last year."

So the leaders were down to three choices. They could use cheaper products, charge more or slice off a cookie or two.

"We had to take the lesser of the three evils," said Walker.

But Girl Scouts have a solution for the new packaging and Abby offers this advice: "Buy more boxes so you can get more cookies."

Girl Scout leaders want families to remember cookies are the Scouts' connection to the communities they help serve and eventually lead in some cases

I don't have a fave but the lemon ones sound good. I don't buy Girl Scout Cookies and haven't for over 15 years. They are too expensive for my pocketbook. And anymore, just like everything else, you're getting less, paying more (according to the news.) It's bad enough that I have to pay more to get less with items that I actually need......

Thin Mints, Tagalogs (peanut butter patties) and DEFINITELY Trefoils (Shortbread) -- dip em in coffee ... YUM!!

We ordered 5 boxes of each flavor from our CERT/Homeland Security Class...

Toss em in the freezer, great for months to come.

I voted thin mints too. Like the other poster, I dont buy them either. The prices are ridiculous for the handful of cookies you get. would rather buy 2 packs of double stuff oreos than 1 small pack of thin mints

This is the only time of year I will pay that much for cookies .. it really does go to a good cause, which for me is the point of buying them.

Well, my dd has been a 500+ club member here for the past 7 years. She stopped girl scouts for this year only due to her heavy work load at school (she doubled up on math and science classes so she'd be able to make the advanced calc and chemistry classes in two years when she's a senior! Yup, a really good motivated kid!)...

Anyway, we would go door-to-door and her goal was to make the prestigious 500 Club when she was a 3rd grader, so, being the mom who always tells my kids they can never reach a goal without trying, I went door-to-door with her to at least 3 neighborhoods, and she did it. After that, it was a tradition for us! The council here would have a great banquet for the girls who made it, and they got special incentives from the council and cookie company!

When she was in 6th grade, she wanted to try for #1 seller, well, she came close, #3 with 1,111 boxes sold! She called business (cold calls), and had a script she read to them asking to meet with their marking department and discuss how Girl Scout Cookies could be used to help in their sales! She then asked them how many cases they would like! My jaw dropped as she confirmed appointments and then just sold by herself, no mom involvement (except for the transportation!) One business she sold 10 cases too! You should have seen her when she came out. She looked at me and said "Mom! I just sold 120 boxes in 15 minutes!" :proud: She was so thrilled, and her self-confidence just shot through the roof! She knew then that perserverance paid off to those that planned! I was so proud of her, and the confidence she got doing this all by herself!

This year was so weird not going out on our kick-off day. But a nice break too (do you know how many cases 1,111 boxes are! And then delivery, there is a trick to that, and if anyone needs advice, please IM me!). She normally averaged about 700-750 boxes a year. She was of only about 5 girls in the entire council to be in the 500+ club for over 7 years.

That is great Shadowcat! .. The most my oldest sold was 309 boxes and it's fun when you have all those boxes in your house .. lol.

This year they didn't do too good .. ppl just don't seem to be buying them like before.

I haven't had girl scout cookies in a long time. I just started hearing about them this year because its the girl scout cookie season. I like the shortbread cookies. Wonder if they still taste the same.

I'm not a fan of them either; but it so goes for a good cause. I do like the shortbreads, but those dulce de leche do sound good!

remember when the boyscouts used to sell the boxes of candy? I loved those little mints that were like a small petit four that had the green coating. mm, brings back childhood memories.

Speak of the devil....a girl scout came to my door today. Aggie bought 10 boxes at $3.50 each. I can't believe he did that. Shortbread, peanut butter, mints....there were others I didn't ask much. Goes for a good cause but I'm still not eating them.....ICK!!!!!

for those that say its a good cause but you really don't like the cookies. If you really like to help you can always offer a straight donation, I do this when the boy scouts try to sell me popcorn....I don't really care for popcorn....so I just usually donate a couple of bucks. LOL

Has anyone looked at a break down of where the money goes for the cookies? I was a den leader for boy scouts and after looking over the leaders information on the popcorn, I decided not to have my boys participate. Now this was many, many years ago and I am sure things change, but I was curious to how they divide the money from the sales of the cookies..

Its actually not bad....the list is a lot more detailed for each category...but I just kind of summarized for you. This is for Maine and it varies slightly either by state or region (not sure which).

Sell for $3.50

$1.90 stays in ME at the the council level I believe - its used to fund a big camp function they have every year & various services (trainings for both girls and adult volunteers) & also financial aid for girls that wodh to participate in GS and cannot afford to .

5 cents pays for the cost of the sale- Brochures, patches, postage, & returned check fees

5 cents stays in the troops local neighborhood to fund activities such as camporee.

65cents stays in the troop, to be used for whatever the troop decides

85cents goes to the bakery for the cost of the cookies

HTH...also wanted to add that as far as the younger girls (Daisy's) the only fundraisers they are allowed to do are the cookie sale and the fall candy sale..both are official GS fundraisers. We are not allowed to do any other fundraisers.....so even purcasing one item is a great help.
