You can also use I-CAN! E-File www.icanefile.org for free to complete both your federal and state tax return for FREE. You can also e-file for free and there is no income limit.

I will try Icanefile.org this year, I normally use turbo tax and have to pay for my state.
Plus I do alot of other people's taxes.

You can use I-CAN!® E-file to file your Federal and state return if you lived and worked all year in one of the following states: California, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania or Montana. If you lived and worked all year in Alaska, I-CAN!® E-file will add your Permanent Fund Dividend on your federal return.

Does this mean if we don't live in one of these states we can't use this program? :(

you probably can file your federal, but not your state. Check your state website, I know Pennsylvania has a free file, i'm sure other states do also.

The link given above is for the regular site, and has lower precentage of free filers. If you use the link I gave you the federal and state will be free. As long as you meet the criteria below.

I have used this one for the past few years.

TurboTax Freedom Edition Qualifying Criteria
To qualify for free federal tax preparation and filing using TurboTax Freedom Edition 2008, you must meet one of the following criteria *

Earned an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) for tax year 2008 of $30,000 or less; or
Qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); or
Served Active Duty Military with AGI of $56,000 or less.To qualify for free state tax preparation and filing using TurboTax Freedom Edition 2008, you must meet both of the following criteria:

You must qualify for free federal tax preparation (above); and
The state(s) must participate in the state FFA (http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/kb/buying-and-billing/product-details/1516.html?lid=stic#4).* subject to change


The 21 states participating in the FFA for tax year 2008 are:

Alabama
Arizona
Arkansas
Georgia
Idaho
Iowa
Kentucky
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota
Oklahoma
Oregon
Rhode Island
South Carolina
Vermont
West Virginia
For states not listed above, the charge to prepare and file that state's return is only $9.95 per state using TurboTax Freedom Edition.

I am bumping this since it's that time again. I use this every year. Never had a problem
