This is an email I got from a friend. Don't know if you guys have seen this yet:

Here's what happens when you don't use your BBQ for a while!

So I'm using my bbq this weekend... time to clean it up..

I know there are bees coming from under the cover .... I thought I'd kill them, obviously...

This is the BBQ in question

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh312/cheryl8ofhearts/Friends/Tracys%20Bees%20in%20the%20BarBQ/download.jpg

Now I know these bombs aren't for bees and that but I thought I'll suffocate/smoke them out. So here is the weapon of choice and delivery system.

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh312/cheryl8ofhearts/Friends/Tracys%20Bees%20in%20the%20BarBQ/download-1.jpg

I thought I was pretty smart hehehe, designed to be easily maneuvered under the cover of darkness...

so then I release the weapon of buzz destruction..

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh312/cheryl8ofhearts/Friends/Tracys%20Bees%20in%20the%20BarBQ/download-2.jpg

OMFG! the sound from under the cover was incredible!!! You could hear it 3m away easy...

Then I ran like the clappers....

Coming back few mins later to see the death toll...

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh312/cheryl8ofhearts/Friends/Tracys%20Bees%20in%20the%20BarBQ/download-4.jpg

Was at least 20mm deep mass grave

I continued to remove the cover and to light the bbq to give it a clean when I noticed some fatty looking substance on the top of the

side shelf thing....

Bit weird.. I cleaned it before I put it away for winter and no way was there fat there so I begun to wonder......

NO..... it can't be could it?

I slowly removed the rest of the cover only to find the HQ.

Its like a train wreck, you can't help but look. I'm trying to be objective towards whoever took this pic. And I know it was intended to be humorous, but man... wouldn't you think they'd see the honeycombs when they took off the cover? I'm betting a beekeeper would come removed that for free to expand their bee population. I don't know a lot about beekeeping, but one would think there's another way to handle that situation. I wonder how long this ones been going around.

"A man in Australia saw some bees around his BBQ, and decided to take matters into his own hands. He took photos to document how he destroyed the honey bees, and emailed the pictures to a few people. The email quickly went viral. Many people were angered by his actions. Did he do the right thing?"

I guess I will be the first to say that I would of done the same thing...I hate bee's of all kinds, so I definately would of killed them too....I would of freaked out if that was what I found on our grill.....we always have wasp and their nest every year and sometimes it gets so bad that you cant even cook out without getting attacked.

add me to the list of "hating bees" (or wasps, or yellow jackets, or hornets)...I am allergic to them if stung ...

but damn I sure would love some of that honey comb!!!!

http://deography.com/?p=220 has pics in case the ones above do not show.

I am also allergic to wasps, bees, ect. But with the honey bees populations in decline and their importance in the "cycle of life" to agriculture I would have found someone to retreive the colony.

Had a bee hive set up in my potting shed, asked for advice from our local freecyle, ended up with multiple repiles. A man from LSU AGCenter came and "rescued" them, combs and all. No cost for the service AND he gave me a quart jar of honey from the schools established hives complete with a chunk of the waxy comb. Win-Win all around.

Before talking to people online I would never have known what to do as we dont have anyone in the phone books but if I ever do have the need, I'll be posting on the local freecycles and craigslists. Thanks for that idea!

I had a problem with bees summer before last. There was a cluster of some sort above where I parked my car. I am allergic to bees and wasps. I made the mistake of posting on here, it was days before that was over with.

We used to have bee hives on our farm growing up and it is amazing how fast they can filled up a new hive.

I would have to say that I would probably have done the same. I am deathly allergic to bees. Sorry, but it's them or me.

I find this sad....my Dad used to have honey bees, he stopped because he was getting too much honey. We have used it all now though and I am trying to talked him into getting more bees as I go through tons of honey!

I understand being afraid of bees, Mike is terrified of them, and I'm sure some aren't aware of the problems with whole colonies disappearing. Just knowing what I know makes this sad to me. Add to that the fact that I can't even kill a spider, which I am deathly afraid of, I just hate seeing contributing creatures of any kind mass murdered. Yes, I am a tree hugger :)

wow, that really saddens me. my hubby has bees. last summer he was called to get some bees out of a house that was just purchased by some new owners. the whole chimney area and into the wall and siding were in his words "BAZILLIONS" of bees. he tried not to kill one bee as he knows that colony colapse is a huge problem with honey bees these days, honey bees are precious and NEEDED to polinate our crops! anyway, he has a bee sweeper (yes, its approved and sold by beekeepers) and went and swept all the bees out, started a new hive on his moms land (so as not to infiltrate any kind of disease, etc. to our bees) and we together went thru the wax and honey and ended up with almost 5 GALLONS of honey! we have given some away and still have alot left, i certainly cant use honey as fast as i should. but being a bee keepers wife you would think i could find lots of uses for it, i try, but i just cant use it very fast. I use it in my tea everyday, i use it in cookies and baking as a sugar substutute, but i just have sooo much!!

i plan on sending this to dh and ask what he thinks. i'm sure he would be heart broken because honey bees are so scarce these days.

edited to add: no our name is not in the phone book as someone said, we just go by word of mouth around these small towns. hubby left his name at the local agway when he got chicken food, and let them know that he does bees too, and lo and behold someone needed him! the week after this call, he got a call from a church that needed help! so yes, freecycle or craigslist or your local agway or feed/natural store may help if you ever need it :)

Gosh I just LOVE honey but it is so expensive anymore. Is it because of the dying bee population?
I make my own cereal bars all the time an they use a lot of honey.

Me too me too!

I think store bought honey is going up in price faster than raw honey. At least around here. The health food store has had a pound of hone for $3.99 for the last couple years. It used to be $2.99 when I worked there, but between gas prices and less bees, he had to raise it.
