CARACAS, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Anti-U.S. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez predicted on Sunday the "black man" will win the U.S. presidential race and offered to hold talks with him to improve ties between the superpower and one its biggest oil suppliers.

Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee who would be the first black U.S. president if he wins Tuesday's election, said this year he would be open to dialogue with leaders like Chavez -- a remark that was seized on by Republicans as naive.

McCain, who trails Obama in polls, has labeled Chavez a dictator.

Chavez, a socialist who has mocked President George W. Bush and calls ex-Cuban leader Fidel Castro his mentor, has said there is an inevitable clash between U.S. and Venezuelan interests, although he has at times offered to ease bilateral tensions.

"We are not asking him to be a revolutionary, to be a socialist -- no," Chavez said at a political rally. We just want the black man who is about to be the U.S. president to have enough stature for the times the world is living through.

"I send an overture to the black man, from us here, who are of Indigenous, black, Caribbean, South American race," he said.

"I am ready to sit down and talk ... I hope we can, and I hope we can enter a new stage," he said later at another rally.

Most Latin Americans would prefer Obama to win the White House over Republican rival John McCain, according to polls. They have felt largely neglected by the Bush administration as the region swung to the left.

Chavez, who expelled the U.S. ambassador in September, urged Obama to end the Cuban embargo, withdraw troops from Iraq and stop what he called U.S. threats against Iran and Venezuela. (Reporting by Ana Isabel Martinez; Writing by Saul Hudson; Editing by Bill Trott)

The only thing I don't agree with Hugo on is threats against Iran. I believe Iran is one of our, if not our biggest threat AS A COUNTRY (not against cave dwellers in Pakistan).
I would love to see the embargo against Cuba end, CHINA practically OWNS the USA and they are worse WAY worse than Fidel or Raul.....
As well as troops to pull out of a un-win-able war.

I don't like the fact that Chavez is anti-American in everything except the $$ he gets from stupid Americans buying his gasoline (which btw is Citgo gas) - nor do I like the fact that he called our new POTUS "the black man" ... jackass -- HE HAS A NAME... Farking USE IT! (which is why I put the thumbs down on the post initially).

While I don't agree with anything that Prez Obama represents, I don't think that he should be referred to as a color -- he was given a name at birth -- people should respect that.

With that said -- Chavez referencing his color instead of his name, and that being disrespectful, how in the world could anyone take anything he has to say for this "meeting" on the level?

Yesh I imagine being talked to like that is really going to make Obama want to talk to him.

Yeah, I don't agree with him saying BlackMan, but thats Hugos culture.
I'm far from a socialist, but I agree with Hugo about issues more than I agree with the Bush administration.

I wonder if Chavez will start the talks by saying something diplomatic like, "What up dawg? You really took it to dat white boy!"

Maybe he will give pointers on how to make our country more like his. I dont see 1 thing to gain by talking to him.

You don't think Obama could get some tips on how to implement socialism?

Why do people keep saying Obama will be the first black president when he is half white? He's biracial - he's not African American. People are confused by the tone of his skin.

I didn't say that -- the article I posted said that. :)

Thank you. However I did NOT watch his speech. Turned channels long enough to see who had one and caught the part where he was saying something about history being made. I was just waiting for him to say it was because he would be the first BLACK president. Don't know IF he made that statment or not. And if he did.......Then he is the one that makes it about race!

I didn't say you said it. It was a general statement. I already know it was an artical and not your words.

No, I know he can get tips from him. I was trying to say, I cant think of any reason why anyone should even sit down and listen to the guy. I dont think our president no matter who it is, should talk to chavez.
