I interpret it as one can continue to better himself/herself and not just be satisfied with that mediocritywhich is your comfort zone. If you push yourself hard enough you can accomplish more then you possibly thought. If you CAN and are ABLE to work, you will work instead of sucking off of the system. By shedding your cynicism you can see the good instead of the same old hum drum going nowhere life that many find themselves in.
I do not take it as anything more then a positive message telling people that they have opportunities to better themselves and not stagnate.
It is subjective so an exact meaning would be hard to pin down. I for one don't want to live a boring uninvolved and uninformed life. I want to learn and grow otherwise life is just the same old rat race.

Perhaps if you would read the thread where there is a portion of one of Bill Ayers books, you might be able to put 2 and 2 together. Ask yourself some questions like:
Why did Bill Ayers choose Obama for the school board.
What is Bill Ayers agenda in choosing to teach.
What type of agenda is he teaching.
Bill Ayers reason for protesting the Vietnam war wasn't like most others, it is because Bill Ayers is a Communist and wanted the communist side to win.
