Wondering if anyone here has any personal experience (or know someone) that has used the antidepressant drug wellbutrin. Looking for one with few side effects or mostly one that DOES NOT cause weight gain, as i've heard many of them do.

All I know is when my sister was on it she quit smoking and could be around smokers and not want one. Other than that I don't know much. You can go to the manufacturers site and read about the side effects.

Yup..that's what my brother used to quit smoking too..it worked for him. It is also works well for depression. I think it depends on the person though..like all other meds. I do know that prescription meds normally take 2 weeks to get into your system and start working.

Yea, my DH used it to quit smoking, in 2000, he has never picked up another cigg. Not sure on depression, but, I hear it does pretty well.

My DD(19) has taken it for about 5 yrs. She has OCD (worries) & anxiety. It has been the BEST med. for her, no side effects except if she has too much caffeine, she gets a little jittery. NO weight gain, its supposed to be the lowest for that. She has been on them all and this one has been a Godsend!!

I've taken it for depression (worked real good) quit smoking (worked great) appetite suppresiant (sp?) (worked really super good) and lost weight on it.

It started giving me headaches after awhile so I had to stop taking it but some people have experienced seizures on it I guess, you may want to check into that if theres a family history.

Overall I was happy with it (no punn intended of course)

If you do take it try to get the name brand and not the generic. My sis in law was taking the name brand then went to generic. It didn't work as well.
Here a couple of articles on it. You can google it also and find more info.

My husband took the brand name for 2 years and he switched to the generic and it has worked the same, he can't tell the difference. He didn't gain any weight or have any side effects. As his wife I think this has worked wonders for him.

A friend of mine took it for depression. It worked on that, but she also really gained weight. I took it for a little while to stop smoking, since it had worked for another friend. But it didn't work for me in that regard. I'm chewing Nicorette for the smoking now.

I use wellbutrin 100mg 3x a day.
To me it has been really, really good. They have tried me on different ones before but this one works for me.

The one I was on before wellbutrin was zyprexa. I gained about 120lb in almost two years but it was not helping out at all. People started suing zyprexa because of the weight gain, and becoming diabetic. I could not sue because I was just boarder lined diabetic...not to sure what that means.

I started using wellbutrin my weight started to come off , and it is to me
IMHO, the only anti-depressant that has really worked for me. When I first started taking it, it did make me really drowsy, but no so much anymore.

I've heard of people using it to stop smoking and to lose weight, but different meds work for different people....
and if you ever meet me you will probably say "yeah she is a little different"....lol

Yeah, it caused weight gain. It worked like Viagra for me so I had a steady 38 week weight gain. :coy

I have been on it for about 2 yrs. I was diagnosed with PTSD. Really no side effects...but 300 mg a day didn't work completely so they added prozac and both combined works great. My anger issues are doing lots better, anxiety is much better and depression is better too. I still have days...but who doesn't/
