Obama Lays Plans to Kill Expectations After Election Victory

Confident in an Election Day win, the campaign looks to lower supporters' expectations on concerns their hopes of 'change' are unrealistic, a senior aide says

FOXNews.com

By Tim Reid, The Times of London

Barack Obama's senior advisers have drawn up plans to lower expectations for his presidency if he wins next week's election, amid concerns that many of his euphoric supporters are harboring unrealistic hopes of what he can achieve.

The sudden financial crisis and the prospect of a deep and painful recession have increased the urgency inside the Obama team to bring people down to earth, after a campaign in which his soaring rhetoric and promises of "hope" and "change" are now confronted with the reality of a stricken economy.

One senior adviser told The Times that the first few weeks of the transition, immediately after the election, were critical, "so there's not a vast mood swing from exhilaration and euphoria to despair."

The aide said that Obama himself was the first to realize that expectations risked being inflated.

In an interview with a Colorado radio station, Obama appeared to be engaged already in expectation lowering. Asked about his goals for the first hundred days, he said he would need more time to tackle such big and costly issues as health care reform, global warming and Iraq.

"The first hundred days is going to be important, but it's probably going to be the first thousand days that makes the difference," he said. He has also been reminding crowds in recent days how "hard" it will be to achieve his goals, and that it will take time.

"I won't stand here and pretend that any of this will be easy -- especially now," Obama told a rally in Sarasota, Florida, yesterday, citing "the cost of this economic crisis, and the cost of the war in Iraq." Obama's transition team is headed by John Podesta, a Washington veteran and a former chief-of-staff to Bill Clinton. He has spent months overseeing a virtual Democratic government-in-exile to plan a smooth transition should Obama emerge victorious next week.

The plans are so far advanced that an Obama Cabinet has been largely decided upon, with the expectation that most of his senior appointments could be announced shortly after election day.

He has already stated that he will not pull out of Iraq; he is steady lowering the threshhold on the "Middle Class", and already predict a "crisis" *and* that we will "not like his response"....

Maybe this is part of the "change" he has been promising ?

Climate change activism in practice

The latest widely-publicized moment of Obamacandor is this bit from an interview last summer, in which he expresses, essentially, the intention to bankrupt the coal industry:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdi4onAQBWQ

Of course, if you believe that anthropogenic global warming has the potential for global cataclysm, then perhaps this is a refreshing moment when a politician with a lot on the line speaks truth to power. Similarly, if you believe that the case for AGW or its consequences has not been made, much less proved, this video reveals the stakes. Policies designed to avert the predicted climate change will have massive consequences for very specific people, and, no, mythical "green collar" jobs will not make up the difference.

CO2 emissions have the same effect on the US whether they are produced domestically or overseas. Perhaps we should take out other countries' coal fired plants ...

OBAMA BRAGS ABOUT BANKRUPTING COAL POWER PLANT COMPANIES

Change we can freeze to death by: http://media.newsbusters.org/stories/hidden-audio-obama-tells-sf-chronicle-he-will-bankrupt-coal-industry.html?q=blogs/p-j-gladnick/2008/11/02/hidden-audio-obama-tells-sf-chronicle-he-will-bankrupt-coal-industry

Let me sort of describe my overall policy.

What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

These remarks were made by Obama on January 17 of this year. Not surprisingly this audio was hidden until now because the interview was with the far left San Francisco Chronicle.

This illustrates better than anything the folly of “cap and trade” proposals. Obama plans to use his C&T plan as a gigantic club to beat up on power companies and coal companies (and the miners) if they don’t meet his arbitrary and capricious “targets” that drop every year regardless of any progress technologically in finding ways to mitigate the carbon output of power plants.

It will almost certainly cause a lot of smaller coal companies to either cut their work force as the demand for coal – our most abundant energy source – shrinks and probably drive a lot of these smaller concerns out of business.

And what about his gloating about driving businesses to bankruptcy? Has there ever been a presidential candidate who looked forward to the prospect of destroying someone’s life’s work and costing thousands of people their jobs?

But at least the Euro-twits pushing Global Warming won’t be mad at us anymore.

Doesn't surprise me I told my husband he'd go back on and not do a lot of what he's promising people to get elected.

This evening, I visited my daughter who is a McCain supporter. Her boyfriend is a worker for BHO. When we were talking about the election, he said "I can't talk about it. The office called today and told me that things are going to be changing so fast, we won't be able to keep up. So, they'd like us not to talk about it for a few weeks"

HUH? That's one office in one town, but still, HUH?

Do any of them ever keep their campaign promises? I've become jaded over the years and believe next to nothing. They all tell you what they think you want to hear. I still have "Read my lips, No new taxes." ringing in my ears from 1988 and we know how that turned out. ;)

I think most of them try. Even Bill Clinton tried for the gays in the military thing. Most of them try.

I dont' think BHO will. I think he has an agenda and that's the end of that. Once he gets elected, I think he suspects he can convince people to gird their loins and stand with him regardless.

I think everyone, including him, are in for a rude awakening. He thinks his 'followers' will love him no matter what. They will go along for a while, but when things get bad enough, they will turn. Everyone has a limit.

Skyrocketing energy prices would do it. That will effect everyone, especially the poor.

Might be a good time to mention that if you go to votesmart.org, you can find 4-5 times that he voted NOT to extend additional heating assistance to the elderly and the poor.

And he paid for that. And he should've, I didn't vote for him second time around. I expect them to try harder than he did.

Isn't this a record? A presidential candidate breaking his promises before he is elected? Haven't all of them waited until they got into office?

Probably not. lol, I bet a good deal of them went into a campaign and made promises with no intention of keeping them at all. Lies of omission, lol. I really dislike a good number of politicians. It's a dirty business and it's rare to find someone without an agenda that doesn't benefit themselves somehow. The abuse of power in all areas is out of hand.
What a thing to be thinking of when I am having insomnia, I'll never get a good night's sleep thinking of politics. :)

The Youtube was his actual voice. I guess I do take things very seriously when I feel someone is mocking the bible.

It was soundbites of his actual voice edited together.

You could clearly hear the gaps where that was edited together. I am not saying that he did not say what you heard, just saying that those of us who were not there don't know what was in the edited out parts, therefore we don't know the context. He could have been saying the exact opposite of what the video implied.

I'm On your side!! I get tired of certain members on here throwing out the "snopes says its false" crap. Or did you even check there before you posted. Well if I thought they were 100% percent correct I might feel the need to do so.............But I highly doubt the do MUCH homework to back up their stories either!

You know if Obama would have done those town hall meetings then we would all have a better take on him and what he really believes and doesn't believe.
