After reading Pastor Bryan Hudson’s letter in Sunday’s paper, I felt the need to reply. I feel that I must address his basic contention. While Pastor Hudson didn’t say that all conservatives were haters, many might take it that way. As a “conservative” Christian I tend to align myself with the GOP. There are several reasons for this, (gun control, abortion, marriage and the family along with National Security just to name a few) hatred, racism and bigotry are not and will never be on my list of considerations for a political figure. I grew up in Detroit, MI and spent four years in the Army. I also know that every person on Earth is, in my belief, a descendant of Adam. We are all one race of people. For what it is worth, my father is Puerto Rican and my first ancestor, that we know of, was an African man.

I personally find it abhorrent that Obama supporters tend to level charges of racism against any opposition to their chosen candidate. I don’t like socialist, Robin Hood inspired programs. I believe in the 2nd Amendment as a guarantor of all our other rights. I believe that we should not respond to terror attacks with weeping eyes and the wringing of hands. Nor do I believe they should be treated as criminal offenses, or called “tragedies” by our officials. The tragedy will be if we allow panic over an unstable economy, (that the Democrats allowed to happen) to override our common sense. Without a strong national defense our economy will be the least of our worries.

America has begun to lose its moral compass. We can’t seem to tell right from wrong, and some of us deny there is any such thing. When a society decries the death penalty, while making no peep over abortion, this should be clear. We have no stomach for punishing the guilty, but vigorously defend a woman’s right to kill an innocent for convenience.

I just can’t see my way clear to electing a man who though “Christian”, can’t say when life begins. A Christian should have no problem with that particular question. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee”. One has to wonder why that never came up at Trinity United Church. They must have been to busy “teaching” on the racism of America. I can’t seem to find any Bible verses for a sermon on that one.

Obama is far to the left of most of America, and I don’t think we are ready for a leader with his views. I fervently hope that we never are! A man of color doesn’t bother me, Obama does. I would love to see Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal as POTUS one day. I could never vote Obama, no matter how much money he promises me.

Your comments are most welcome.

Great letter. I hope they post it and don't mess it up. My hubby has had some of his letters to the editor messed with before being posted. Course, they apologise in fine print.

Very good letter, RM. Though I disagree with you on some things occasionally, I truly admire the fact that you care enough to take the time to express your beliefs knowing that people may ridicule them and that you obviously truly believe in what you say. You never say what you don't believe and aren't a hypocrite. :)

:star: Thanks! I sometimes take some crap for my unwavering positions, so it is actually nice when people say something positive!
