A pan flute? I saw the movie but can't remember that scene. Just thought a pan flute sounded like some musical instrument they would have.

A pan flute?

LOL no .... If you have the disc with the special features, look at the "Iconic Props" featurette... John Hurt ( aka Oxley ) recieved one as a gift from a dignitary in India ... that is as much info as they give. It is a length of bamboo fitted with a washer on one end, it is swung a round his head and body, producing a whistling sound. I thought it wold be cool for the scouts to make ... we have a stand of bamboo bordering the church where we meet and have permission to "harvest" as needed. We have made pan flutes before ... I thought this would be something new.

If I only knew the name I could "google" it.

Iconic Props: The hat, leather jacket, whip, grail cup, ark of the covenant, and now the crystal skull are all iconic props, which we get a good look at in this featurette. This was one of my favorite extras on the disc, as we get a look into the props warehouse and the LucasFilm Archives as well as see how new props — like the sword case and the swords, made by WETA, umand John Hurt’s uniqure musical instrument — were made. We also get a look at Mutt’s letter, books from Indy’s library, armor and weaponry, including Orellana’s armor made by WETA, new whips and haversacks, and Mutt’s switchblade and comb. Also, the Area 51 set had miles of boxes, so they made props for the boxes for the scene when Spalko’s soldiers throw the crates and they break open, when the Ark of the Covenant makes a cameo

Maybe there is no real instrument?

No - they said it was made in India ... was gifted by a "Dignitary" to John Hurt. I found other instruments... flutes, drums, harp-type items. I will end up going over and fetching me some bamboo and just playing with it. I already have a few ideas. Cut it just above the node, then drill a small hole and reinforce it with a washer. Bamboo is fun to work with... heat the outside and it creates it's own lacuer finish; soak it in dye first and you get some lovely colors.
