the following:
Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag
pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain
why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.
According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171.
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all
present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention
facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. (Those in uniform
salute with their hand at their head)
OBAMA: 'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived
as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world
to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem
itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air
and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less
bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If
that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president!!
I, for once, am speechless. He has absolutely NO pride in this
country!!!!!
This is outrageous!!!! He doesn't deserve to be dogcatcher!!!
(Oh, sorry dogcatchers, I mean you no disrespect.)

I don't either. I refuse to put my hand over my heart when they say the Pledge of Allegiance. I also refuse to take an oath with the word "God" in it.. and it is our right as Americans not to..

I guess I didnt real. that there were those that didnt do this,if I had strong feelings about not doing this, then I would have to go with what was in my heart.

Who cares what other people think of our flag. He should be proud of it. I don't understand a person running for president but wont honor our flag or place his hand over his heart during our anthem. Its disrespectful to not honor our flag or national anthem. And what's this about taking sides if he wears our flag. He is an American citizen and he's running for our president. I would hope he'd be on our side. Its strange to not honor the two things that mean a lot to Americans our flag and out national anthem. I bet other countries honor their flags and anthems. If the only way you can make other countries happy is to not honor our flag then they'd just have to be unhappy for all I care. I wonder if he'll try to change the anthem after he's president. The more I hear about Obama the less I like him or what he stands for.

This has been posted numerous times and refuted every time as it's completely false. I'm not a McCain supporter, but had I seen such a ridiculous email about him, I would validate the information before spreading it to others.

Then why did he take the flag off his plane and replace it with something else?

Why not? McCain's plane doesn't have a flag logo on the tail either. (Obama's plane does have an American flag on it tho, just not for a tail logo.) He took the Airlines logo off (the flag) and put his own logo in it's place.

Thank you!
This is getting ridiculous. Before posting and spouting nonsense, please VERIFY your information, people! Wouldn't you expect the same of someone posting information about you and your beliefs?
I cannot wait for the election to be over.

Does anyone remember what his reasoning was though for not placing his hand over his heart during the anthem? I do believe that he did actually explain his reasoning, I just haven't found it yet and it was a while back.

The reason is "proper flag etiquette". You are only suppose to put your hand over your heart or hand to head for military 1) During the pledge or 2) When the flag is being moved from one location to another. You are suppose to lower your hand during the National Anthem.

"You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin," Obama said. "Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest.

Actually, that is NOT proper flag etiquette.
The Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem (http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html) The pledge of allegiance should be rendered by standing at attention, facing the flag, and saluting.
When the national anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand at attention and salute at the first note and hold the salute through the last note. The salute is directed to the flag, if displayed, otherwise to the music.

I actually respected him for taking a stand on that ... but I noticed he had a lovely flag pin on his lapel at each debate... so much for that "conviction"

Let's see, Obama ...
1) Sat in a racist church for twenty years, where his pastor would say things like "God d*** America!"
2) Started his political career in the home of a terrorist that tried to blow up the Pentagon.
3) Has a wife that said she was not proud of America until her husband got the nomination
4) Has compared US Immigration to the Gestapo
5) Has accused our military of air raiding villages.
And we wonder why he doesn't like America? :slap
