Does anyone here live in New Orleans? DH and I usually go to the smokies this time of year but to cut expenses we thought we might go to New Orleans. I don't care that much about seeing the French Quarter. I would rather see what is being rebuilt and how NO looks now. I know it will be very sad but I have read 2 books written by survivors of the hurricane and I would like to go look now for myself. I thought I never wanted to see this but after reading about landmarks and other things I have changed my mind. Has any one visited there, or lived there since the hurricane? Any suggestions on a place to stay or anything interesting to see? What has happened to the cemetaries. Anybody who can tell me anything , I would like to hear it. Thanks.

Being as I was from around the area before the storm hit, then compared to now,Id say if you decide to go,make sure your in a large group, its 100 more times dangerous now,its a lovely place,I love it,but the hoods have opened up largely. Not to long ago,my foster daughters dad went there,he was robbed and beat severely, but he was out hitting the french quater at 1 am.When the city has taking a bad leaf, you dont walk the strip at that time of morning with out a huge group of people with you,no clue what he was thinking, maybe to many drinks in him?
Remember, most of the fun places other than french quater are still not up and running,or not rebuilt.
If you go please be very very extrem. careful.

1- drink as many Hurricanes as possible
2- eat beignets until you wanna throw up
3- enjoy the vibe
4- eat gumbo by the bowlfulls
5- visit some plantation homes
6- do at least 1 haunted walk
7- stay FAR away from the 9th ward
8- visit the cemetary downtown

After what I have just read, it makes me not want to go. It would only be my husband and me.

It will only be how you make it out to be, give it a chance and you just may have a lot of fun..
