I lived in Baltimore for about 3 years in the early 80's. I liked it quite a bit there - right around the time the Aquarium opened up.

I live over 1800 miles from where I grew up. I grew up in Truth or Consequences New Mexico and a little dirt town called Chaparral New Mexico. I was born in Alabama but moved away ( dad was in the Army) and had to move back once I was grown. We've been back in Bama for 12 years.

About 2 hours from my hometown. My parents still live there so I usually go "home" about once a month.

We've been in TX, for 21 yrs. Last month, we made a trip to MD, so that my 18 yr. old DD could meet her only living grandparent, while she still had the chance. Mom lives in Harford County, near the PA line. We wound up driving into Baltimore, and I almost DIED! While the Inner Harbor area is beautiful, it's nothing but a tourist trap. Everything has changed so much. To get into the Aquarium now, it cost $28. per person!!! The areas around Baltimore city, that DH and I grew up in, are now...slums. With every other house (rowhomes) boarded up, and some even torn down in the middle of the block of rowhomes. And, forgive me if this sounds racist, because it's not meant to be...I'm just trying to point out how much things have changed, 'kay?
When we were growing up in East Baltimore (Highlandtown) our neighborhoods were all white, with alot of elderly people, of German, Irish, and Polish descent. I never knew ANY Hipanics, and only a few African-Americans. When we were there in August, it hardly felt like we had left TX.
There are alot of Hispanic people in that area now.
The Canton area, that used to be heavy industry and factories, on the waterfront. is now condos and parks and stripmalls. High-rent district...KWIM?
Whoever said you can't go home again, was right.

A little over an hours drive now. Still have a few relatives in that area. I have lived in various other states over the years, but most of my immediate family is anywhere from less than an hour to 2 hours away from where I am.

When we lived there it was still pretty nice and reasonable - I lived off Erdman Ave (if you know where that is). The Aquarium was not that much! I haven't been back much since then - only a trip or 2 to the Inner Harbor to eat a Phillips and buy bread. It was always a little pricey there!

About 100 miles. Hubby wants to move to Alaska but I told him he had to wait until my grandmother passed on. I'm too much of a baby to move any further from her than I am now, I can't even stand being this far away.

That's my dream too! I have wanted to live there ever since I was a little girl!

He lived there for a year or so when he was much younger. He lived on a ranch that was kind of like a communal living type thing. They had no electricity, no running water, no indoor toilets... blech. I told him I would NEVER live there (apparently it's still there), I would not even go on vacation there. He asks me to every couple of years or so... I don't like to camp here and I'm damn sure not gonna do it there in the cold. Put my bare ass on a cold makeshift toilet seat in some outhouse w/ 4 feet of snow surrounding it... yeah, not gonna happen!

I live in the house I grew up in. My mama gave it to me after she decided I should live with her after my divorce. I earned it, though. She was barely making it, living on less than 650/month from ss. I paid all the bills and then took care of her for almost 5 years after she got sick.
