CreditCard Fraud - nice way to start the day...

.... check my bank acct (SUNTRUST) this morning & there are 2 pending charges for $525 to ALCONE COMPANY., not made by ME!
Called the bank., they said IF it goes thru, they'll have to investigate., which means that my $1100 would be on hold until the investigation.
Called ALCOME COMPANY, First thing out of the womans mouth was, "Your a SUNTRUST customer, aren't you?" Apparently many many Suntrust customers have had their debt / credit card info stolen. The woman said the FBI already knows about it & that the bank already knows about it.
Oy-Vey...
So., they cancelled my Debt card, so I've been busy going to all my different accts like netflix & xm & have to change the billing info.

I have faith that the charge won't go thru., but its so scray!
We went to our local branch & asked if they had some kind of protection if their was a questionable charge like that in the future & he said there wasn't, not with the debt card.

Most good banks offer protection on their debit cards

If Suntrust knew the info was stolen or compromised how come they didn't notify their customers? I'd do business someplace else once it's cleared up.

The guy at our local branch hadn't heard about it & the woman who I called before we went to the branch didn't mention it either.

They money was still PENDING as of this morning.
I have so many questions for the bank & nobody has the answers.

Lately, I haven't been using my debt card., in the real world & online.
I'm the most cautious., I burn all my mail, etc... Never thought it would happen to me......

I hate to leave Suntrust. The other banks here are few & far between.

I just got my Capital one CC statement and had 3 charges from "tony tudor" for $60.28, 50.62, 38.01 and one from manchesterp for $97.01. they all had the same number after the name. I called fraud and they are sending me the paper work. They closed my account for fraud and are sending me a new card. They assured me I won't be responsible. All these charges were made on 8/10 and 11.What a PITA!!!

Capital One is great to work with on problems like this. Tech mine wasn't fraud but they are getting my money back and we changed the card and whatever money gets refunded they will just pay it into my current acct. So far I have gotten one of the 3 fixed :)

actually just checked and capital one has put back ALL the money now they just need to move it to the open acct and I am in biz :)

Of corse., the weekend., no one can help us., only cancel the only card we have linked to that acct., which is DHs.
Apparently, from what SunUNTrust says, its was DHs card & it was transacted at 12:19AM, Saturday (UH., WHY DID IT NOT SHOW WHEN I CHECKED IT AT 9:00am.) ~ SO ANYWAY.... we'll be cancelling both the savings & checking accts @ 8:30 Monday morning, OHHHH I feel sorry for the local branch...... they are gonna get ripped a new a$$HOLE big TIME!!!!!!

Especially after we were IN THERE IN PERSON Wedn. morning with the same problem!

so mad., so ..so mad!!!! Thankfully DH was home & he called, (he spoke to a pee-on & a "superviser") or I'd still be on the phone with them, asking for everybodys supervisor supervisor!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like writing my congressman & or senators & letting them know.
I will for sure be on CRAIGSLIST in every major city in the South, RANTING about how un-scure & non-challant about the whole FRAUD thing

That's awful having to wait the weekend. I totally understand what you're going through. I just checked my account and Capital One credited back all of my unauthorized charges. It sucks not having my CC for a week but they were really on the ball.
I hope your stuff gets fixed ASAP. Hugs.

Hope you get it straightened out-but thanks for posting! My elderly neighbor has suntrust, and I helped her check her account-bad charges on it too! Monday morning taking her to get it straightened out and CLOSE that account!!!!!!!!!

Last week I had to charges to my bank account for auto pay to T-Moble, I don't have T-Moble, so I had to fill out the paper work at the bank and they said it could take 4-5 business days, if any checks bounced due to these charges they would wave the fees. Well what about the places I've written checks too??????????????
Luck was on my side and they put the money back the next day, they said someone must have typed in the wrong numbers for direct debit, ya think!!

This Happened To Me A Few Years Ago-i Pressed Charges Through My Local Sherriffs Dept-and They Nailed The Ladies In Ohio-i Had To Change My Card And I Never Got Billed After I Pressed It-anyways-mine Was Stolen Off The Net-it Easy For People To Do,alls They Do Is Make Up A Number When Buying Something,and Alot Of Times It Goes Through,and Really Ends Up Hurting People Like Me-i Hope All This Gets Worked Out For You Fast-if At All Possible I Would Press Charges-no Matter What Its Stealing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, everything was fine... for now. I really should check my accounts more often than I do. Ya know, for all of us that have credit cards, debit cards, even use checks (your account number and routing number are right there on them), it's probably just a matter of time. I wish they could find a safer way of doing things.

The company I work for uses Suntrust and we have never had problems getting stuff resolved. Suntrust is probably one of the fastest to resolve problems. I know it was your card that had problems the first time, I am surprised they didn't suggest canceling both cards on the account at that time. I would start with my local branch and then go to the district manager and on up from there - that will be your best course of action with Suntrust. I wish you were in Central FL I could give you direct lines to people that would get it handled.

Went to the branch. They were apologetic., eevn had 2 huys over kissin' our a$$s. Long story short... the stupid b!tch whom I spoke with Wedn. morning over the phone, failed to check both those charges, if she had., she would have saw that it was MY card & DHs card. She was so impatient with me., yelling to me "its only your card, its only your card". So if that stupid b!tch would have done her job & saw that both cards had charged., we would have cancelled both cards & not have to deal with what we delt with over the weekend!!!!!!

The money is back as of this morning.

DH called BUILDING FOR HEALTH., the woman said., shes got the guys name & address., somewhere in Jonesboro Georgia & that the local police there know., but since no actual theft has taken place, they cant do anything.

Still dealing with the bank. DHs is gonna have to call them today., since bith cards were cancelled we've lost all our REWARDS POINTS - only enough for a $50gc, but I WANT MY POINTS BACK!!!!
