I just moved into a new house a few months back. We found a boy around my nephews age lives 3 houses down. That was so great, he would have someone his own age to play with. The mom is really shy and said she didn't have any friends, I of course said well now you do, I am always in need of another friend. Things have been going good, the kids are crazy about each other and play together several times a week. Yesterday the mom asked if they could go to church with us. We picked her son up at his aunts. After church we took them home so they could change clothes and eat lunch before they came back to spend the rest of the day with us. Here's where things go wrong. The mom calls and needs me to take her son back to his aunts house and she was upset. BTW she doesn't have a car. I told her yes and we they got here she was upset. After dropping him off, she tells me that she got yelled at for having her child on their kids free weekend. Then she tells me that the family is telling her that since she met me she has changed and that I am a bad influence on them. They are saying that the child is not minding and acting out and somehow that is my fault. I do not want to get into some crazy family drama. I just wanted my nephew to have a friend. LOL ok vent over.

I would just let her vent. Maybe she needs to have a friend & not be so dependent on her family - they sound a little nuts, if they get upset because she had her child with her.
You can listen, but not really get invovled (know what I mean?). Good luck, I hope your nephew enjoys his new friend.

I wa thinking along the same lines too. It probably took a lot for her to open up to you about what happened since she's so shy. It sounds like her family is afraid that they can't keep her in her place as they wish. You're being a great friend. Isn't it funny how families and friends often blame outside influences on someone making positive changes.

Kid free Sunday afternoon? What was she supposed to do with him, lock him in a closet?
Her relatives sound like the crazies. Poor thing. Hopefully, she'll start seeing more of life than just them.

Kid free weekends was new to me also. What they do is every other weekend they trade off the kids. One weekend they stay home and the aunts kids come over there and the next weekend they send their kids over to the aunts house.

Sounds like her relatives are jealous of the new found friend she has found in you.

Sounds like she needs a friend.
You might want to take this one a little slow.
We can all use more friends but some people just seem to be drama magnets.
You're going to have decide for yourself.
