My kitchen has a bunch of freaking fruit flies and I am not sure where they are coming from. There is no fruit or anything laying around. I bleached my entire kitchen a few days ago and there were only a few. This morning I wake up (f you can call it that) and now there's a whole butt load..
ARGH.. It's taking all my strength not to make a blow torch of hairspray and a lighter to fire bomb my kitchen..

No kidding! Mine apparently are living in my drain so I poured a box of baking soda down it, then poured some hot vinegar in to boil it out........HA! I think it was Miracle-Gro for the suckers! I have nothing sitting out, no dishes are left in the sink, the most I have is a glass or a cup that has been rinsed out......GRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I always heard to put a banana peel out on your porch, they would go to that.

yes check your drains, do you have any plants? I had a whole bunch of those things living in the soil of my plants. (more so gnats.. but practically the same thing) i tried the banana peel in a jar and then the vinegar w/ a drop or two of dish soap in a jar too.. good luck w/ those... neither of them worked, what seemed to work the best was the organic spray we bought for cockroaches and ants... or I seem to attract more in just a glass/bowl of plain water  they definitely are annoying

I can't do the banana peel on the porch bdue to having no porch lol.. I could leave it in the driveway near the garage , or on the front step..
I opened a couple windows in the kitchen and I have been shooing them out w/ a dish towel.. I may have gotten 10 to leave. only a couple hundred to go *sigh

You should check for a leak. They love to breed around damp areas.

I had a truck load of those nasty little buggers. I got a couple of NoPest strips from Save a Lot and within just a couple of hours they were all gone. The strips have a bit of a funky smell if you get too close. But who cares? It got rid of the flying critters.

You have to find the source. I was over run by them a few years ago. I did the dish soap in water and few other things. I finally found they were coming from a piece of candy my daughter had put under the bed in her room. Once I found it and cleaned the carpet they were gone in a few days. They are very annoying. I hope you get rid of them soon.

You can put a small dish (like a saucer) of dish soap and vinigar out and they will be gone in a day. They are attracted to that but it's poison to them so they get in it and die.

We were overrun by those last year, my lovely DD was leaving empty soda cans in her room. They were a b1tch and a half to get rid of. :mad. I kept putting the dish with lemon juice or venegar and dish soap on the counter but it didn't help much. The thing that worked was those NoPest sticky strips that tuggerbug mentioned. Good luck!!

It could be a rotton potato too...we had them and unfortunatly, we had major water problems under our sink. It had leaked into our floor boards and we had to replace our entire kitchen floor (Slow leak)....the cup of vinegar with a piece of saran wrap over it (poke some small holes in it). Beer works better...

I didn't use those sticky fly paper type things. I got the things called "NoPest Strips". They're platic holders that hold some kind of yellow things that are not sticky at all.

Are you sure they weren't aphids, some varieties look a lot like fruit flies. Aphids love houseplants......easiest thing to do for them is dilute dishsoap in a spray bottle and keep spraying the plant. It will also help to keep the plant out in fresh air for several days.

this works like a charm once the source is gone.....Change it a couple times a day though because it will get gross with them dead little buggars!

My dh rigged a trap using a mason jar, plastic yogurt container, and a jar lid w/beer in it.. He found it online and tweaked it to his liking.
It's working pretty good believe it or not. Our fly population is almost nil. :)

I may have to try that one ElleGee ! Since I live in Orange , Ca and our neighbor hood has alot of Orange , Lemon , Lime , Mango , and Avocado tree's and such I almost have to keep the door's and windows closed but I hate to because it's so nice to have fresh air coming through the house. I hate the little critters too , and to add we have kitty's too . I could just :tearhair my hair out , now to get a beer . Thanks for the advise too.:)

We have them too and I have no idea where they came from. I got a can of Raid and sprayed it directly on them. I swear they must of been laughing at me, not one of them would die when I sprayed them. I'm going to have to look for the NoPest strips. I hope that works.
