I am sitting here exhausted ,but I can lay down, even with increasing the O2 up to 2.5 on my cpap machine, I can't breathe well. I feel as though I can't breathe well, I've turned the air conditioner back on but it not helping much.
I guess I should have known when they told me my lungs was only working at 68 % capacity, that does not mean that O2 saturation is 68, it means that 32 % of my lungs is covered in hard stuff that is stopping them from expanding like they should, so only 68 % of my lungs actually work correctly. I guess I should have expected times like these.
Any other time it would not be such a problem since I could sleep late, but I have to take my grandson's to be picked up by their parents two hours away tomorrow, and hubby wants to leave early so we can take them to a park near there. I'm going to try and sleep, I guess I need to keep trying to sleep anyway. I wonder how high I can turn up my machine without it actually causing me problems?

My husband is having the same problem lately. Even with oxygen on he can't seem to breathe good enough to get rest. He takes naps during the day but he can't seem to get good rest at night. I hope things get better for you so you can get some rest. I don't know why but not being able to breathe right makes him stay hotter too.

You'll find that the weather has a big influence on whether you have a good/bad day/night. Winter & summer are the worst times, at least for me, due to the temps., etc... My Dr. also has me on an anxiety drug, it helps. When I am having a lot of problems breathing, I totally make it even worse on myself with panic. It also helps to sleep with the head of your bed elevated, or you can try a recliner so that your not laying flat. I hope you can get some good rest soon, it's really hard though. I hope you have a safe trip today and get better rest tonight.

ok, just a question here, how long is he hose on the oxygen, for both you and others who posted their loved ones had problems even on 02... I'm sure 99% of you know this.. but for ever 20 feet of hose or so it cuts the actual 02 you're getting by at least half. I know its more convient to have the long hose, but it hurts in the long run..... so if you know anyone who does this.. you might let them know.. Home heath nurse don't seem to know this....at least not the ones i've dealt with

Thanks everyone, I finally dosed off about 6 and hubby got me up at ten, four hrs more sleep than I thought I would get.
Well for me I am on a cpap the 02 comes through, but they gave me a 25 foot O2 hose, I coiled it in a circle and tied it onto the machine, but it is still coming through a 25 foot hose, all I really need right now is about a four foot hose, I will definitely turn mine up to a three until I get a new hose.
I am also going to request they ask the cpap dr. the same dr. that is my pulmonary guy if I can turn it up from a 2 to a three even when I get the correct hose.

I wouldnt jack it up TOO much until you speak to ur doctor Monday, try getting a wedge that woudl allow you to sleep slightly elevated, that might help your breather problems

Because he is WORKING harder to breathe. You don't think of breathing as work but it is work when you are having trouble. Yes my dad would break out in a sweat when he was having trouble breathing and keeping the house cooler helped so put a sweater on both of you and turn the air cooler. It is worth it to make breathing easier, also if the air is very dry set out a couple of bowls of water out of the way so it will be absorbed in the air.
