Apply Vick's salve to it every night/day and that will get rid of it. My hubby's doctor actually told him to do this. Of course you are going to lose the nail, but it should grow back healthy.

If the vicks salve doesn't work, soak your feet in warm vinegar, buy a gallon of the brown vinegar, apple cider vinegar, I think, and put some in a pan and warm it in microwave, then soak you feet in it for a half hour twice a day for a couple of weeks, if it is really bad go for a month.
Pour the used vinegar back in a bottle marked dirty and just add some of the other to it because it will evaporate plus your feet will absorb some of it. This will also cure athlete foot and the dry calloused fungus people get on their feet that actually is so thick it will crack and the feet will bleed and be very sore. I had this and it was horrible, the vinegar worked and it killed the fungus.
If you have this problem, wipe the inside of your shoes down with a bit of vinegar as well, to kill the fungus in your shoes, also there is an athletes foot spray for your shoes. Whichever way you try I hope it works for you. Good Luck!

Using Tea Tree oil works too. If you have a foot bath just put a few drops into the water or just dab on with a cotton ball. Tea Tree Oil works for so many things too, great on bug bites and scratches.

This hasn't worked for me at all.
Dr recommended it to me as I couldn't afford the Lamasil tablets.

I used to have ugly nails. Did the vapor rub thing and in about 3 months they were nice again.

You can get this at Walmart I believe in the Vitamin section.

try to go without your shoes whenever you can. Fungus is a live thing, and needs 3 things to grow, wet, dark, heat. My father got fungus when he was a GI taking showers in the barracks, and he was meticulous about his feet for the rest of his life.

I also tried everything - nothing worked.
I had the big toenails removed on both feet 6 weeks ago.
I also had the nail root burned so they will never grow back. Yesterday was the first day I could wear a shoe :star:

The middle toe on my left foot was injured by my then 2 yr old daughter when she stepped on my toe in her corrective shoes and then twirled. She is 42 now. This tore my toe nail off. It grew back damaged and got a fungus. Most of the time when we get a fungus under a nail it starts as an injury my dr told me. This eventually spred to all the toes on that foot and also onto the top of my foot. If I wear socks the top of my foot will break out and itch. I do pretty good in the summer but in the winter it stays broken out. The crazy thing is I don't have it on the right foot at all. I can't take the oral meds for it because of my liver and other meds I take. So today I bought the Vicks. The fungus medicine I was spraying and rubbing on wasn't doing a thing. I hope this works. My doc will be so surprised! And I will be thrilled. Sometimes these little things that seem so simple can bother us so much. Thanks.

Question, do you all mean Vicks vapor rub? I too have tried some things but I have not been consistant. I need to take more time I think for the vinegar. But Vicks Vapor rub is this correct?

My podiatrist told my husband to get a spray bottle, fill it with 3% hydrogen peroxide and spray the toes. Soak them well. Let air dry.
Do this 3 times a day, for 6 weeks.
She is not an antobiotic pusher, she tries everything else first.
We are in day 3.

I recently saw a doctor on tv who was talking about methods of treating toenail fungus without taking drugs that can damage the liver. He said that the Vicks Vapor Rub works as well as spraying peroxide on the feet about 3x's a day for several weeks.

I had a nail fungus on my big toe, went to the doctor and he gave me a script for some polish, it was 90 dollars. I search nail fungus and went with the vinegar idea. I lost my nail within 2 weeks and new one grew back about 3 weeks later. make sure you use it even when the nail is gone. It says if you dont do it twice a day the fungus will start on the new nail also. Havent had a problem with it since.

Yes some of the drugs can be toxic. You must have blood work done often.

I was reading an article in my local newspaper tonight and it said that dipping a cotton ball in bleach and then rubbing it on the nail also gets rid of the fungus.

I would think twice about the bleach, but I started on the Vicks, I hope it works.
