View Full Version : Going thru a bout of depression

Once in a while I just get really down about a lot of stuff that goes on. Like the fact that my youngest's father is a wicked deadbeat and would rather go to jail than pay his 55 bucks a week for child support.. Yeah he has to pay only 55 a week and he has issues with that.. He is one of those "I deserve respect at my job even though I didn't earn it' types and gets fired all the fecking time..
The last time I got CS was 2/20 of this year and it was 20 bucks. Before that was 17 days before and that was $100..Going to court takes months and by that time he'd have a job for 2 months until the court date is up and then stop paying again..
I do get child support from my soon to be ex dh. But he pays even less than the other idiot.. Plus the fecker won't pay the 45 bucks for him to get served when I saved him all sorts of money by doing it all on my own.. Nice guy huh?
However he has enough money to take his date out and then give the waitress a $100 tip on a $50 check.. yeah makes no sense I know.. OOh and he BRAGGED about doing it.. A$$h0l3
I really want to get a job, but the fibro makes that really freaking hard.. I do not qualify for SSI because my fibro isn't that bad.. So now, I have to try and find a legit WAH job. Yeah, that ought to be fun to find *eyeroll
My current dh asked me if I want an allowance and if he were here saying that and not 300 miles away we'd be in a huge fight right now.. That ,to me ,is a fecking insult.... I mean seriously.. I am not a kid. I'm freaking 35. I should be able to take care of my kids and my own bills without him bailing me out.. When they were both paying support and I was doing surveys I actually started to accumulate a good balance in my bank accounts.
Before I got diagnosed with the fibro and before the current dh, i had a good job. I had quite a bit in the bank and I wouldn't have given a sh#t if one of the ex's skipped a week in child support..
IDK. I guess I am in a "I feel sorry for myself, pity party of one" type of mood. I wish I could blame it on my monthly visitor but that's over with..
Blegh, anyway thanks for listening to me whine like a big freaking baby

I so know how you feel and I am so sorry. I don't have the child support problems but believe me we all have one kind of problem or another and I think the fibro plays with our minds. How can the dr determine how bad your fibro is? Isn't it worse on some days that others? My dr said I would have qualified for disability if I had applied sooner but I didn't know that and waited too long. But how on earth can they know how you feel every day? I had a dr tell me that it is usually very hard workers who get fibro. I thought that was so kind of him to say that. I was an RN on a med surg floor before I got it and I know I busted my butt every day. Good luck with the depression. You know it will pass but it sure sucks while you have it and having all those people say just exercise or think happy thoughts or what ever make you want to cut someone's throat!

I know!! Fibro is different from day to day, hell even hour to hour... Yeah, I think it's the fibro getting to me on top of all this stuff.. Thanks
My DH is a big one for the 'get some exercise' comment.. He means well but I still want to punch him in the head when he says it :)

I really hope you feel better soon. I have been depressed for a few years(some days are good and others are horrible) but I try to fight through it. I don't take medication for it because i feel like i am in another world when I take it. I have very bad back problems and can't do any labor work. I am trying to get my ssi but they say I have to wait until my workers comp is over. It's been over 3 years and I'm still waiting. I will keep you in my thoughts and send good vibes your way. You can get through it, I have faith in you.

I hope you snap out of it soon. It sucks being down in the dumps.
We have a nursing assistant that has that fibro thing & she calls off all the time yet they don't fire her. Maybe you could look for a job that would understand your situation better like in a nursing home or something. I know nothing about fibro so I wouldn't know what a mild case is like from a bad case.

Hugs, ElleGee. I hope that you're feeling better soon. It sucks to have an illness that changes your lifestyle. It's hard to deal with it when your mind wants to do things but your body says no. I really hope your depression lifts soon.

I am sorry you are having such a hard time right now and hopefully it will pass soon. You and I sound very much alike in the fact that we want to take care of our own w/out the so called allowance........my hubby tried that too and I didnt like the sounds of it. I pay for all the extras that the kids have by doing surveys and of course child support..........thankfully he works all the time so that isnt an issue anymore......I can remember trying to support me and 2 kids on less than $500 a month before that got sorted out. Of course I lost everything but the 2 kids and the car I had to drive to work and I am still paying off the bills he stuck me with..........but it was all worth it and I know I am a much stronger person because of it :)

I hope you start feeling better soon. Maybe for work you can look for companies looking for part-time typists & see if they would allow you to do the work from home. Also check in the yellow pages unders secretarial help & see if they hire ind contractors to work from home.
Make sure the IRS & other govt agencies know that your ex's are behind in CS, this way you can at least get their tax returns. Good luck - I hate deadbeats!

Awww I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling depressed :hug I don't know about the fibro, but I do know about the child support..ugh, what a headache! I don't know how it works with fibro, but I would try the disability route again, especially if you have the support of your doctor.
I hope you feel better soon!

not if it has been too long since you quit work regardless of why you quit

It has nothing to do with your last job or when you quit it. Anyone that has worked in their lifetime is eligible for disability. If you have a chronic illness that prevents you from working you can get disability. You apply, get denied, get a lawyer, get documentation from your doctor about your disability, seek whatever help your doctor tells you and get documentation from any other doctors you see about your illness. And if your depressed about your illness that would also be in your favor..seek help for your depression..counseling, psychiatric whatever..get that documentation for your lawyer too. Also, the more money you have made working in your lifetime the bigger your disability check will be..they go by your income. Good luck!!

Glad that you're feeling a bit better :)
Here's more info on Social Security
Social Security pays benefits to people who cannot work because they have a medical condition that is expected to last at least one year or result in death. Federal law requires this very strict definition of disability. While some programs give money to people with partial disability or short-term disability, Social Security does not.
Certain family members of disabled workers also can receive money from Social Security. This is explained in "Can my family get benefits?"
How do I meet the earnings requirement for disability benefits?
In general, to get disability benefits, you must meet two different earnings tests:
A “recent work” test based on your age at the time you became disabled; and
A “duration of work” test to show that you worked long enough under Social Security.
Certain blind workers have to meet only the “duration of work” test.

well that sucks
sadly you pick the losers to procreate with them.
and your latest man is not a great catch either.
I don't think you should put up with junk like that. My SIL is a lazy person complains she has no money has a 16 year who works at mickey D's and she takes 1/2 her paycheck to pay for her smokes and toilettries (as she put it) SIL would work, excuse after b.s. can't keep a job 1 month and no matter how much I tried to teach her my stay at home job she is too dumb to turn on computer.
lots of work at home jobs available.
or even watching just or 1 or 2 other kids in your home for $50 to $100 a week is good money

Yep, I did pick losers to have kids most definitely with but my current dh rocks. I don't know where you got that he isn't a great catch? I mean asking me if I want money every week is an insult to my ego yeah , but ,he doesn't expect me to work.. He also doesn't understand the complexities of fibromyalgia but he tries...

Nope , I am not the babysitter type.. Some people were made for daycare work.. I am not. Not even close....Especially with the fibromyalgia..

Good luck!!Yes you are right, but it is not just a "hey I need it and they give it to you" It is a humiliating and very very time lengthy process. Its hard. I know you didn't say it was "easy", I am just saying, in some cases it worth it to try and make it without having to apply for disability, and use getting disability as a last resort.
ElleGee, I am sorry you are feeling down, I too have fibro, I feel for you. It is hard. I hate to talk about it becuase people still seem to not understand and I feel like they don't believe me because I "look" ok. I also do not want to use my fibro as an excuse. I am not saying you do... I am always using excuses and so I try not to use that as one. If that makes any sense. LOL And I just don't want people to judge me so I am not comfortable talking about it, but I am learning thats not such a good thing. So I wanted to also thank you for sharing your troubles. I respect you and you sharing you having fibro makes me more comfortable sharing me having it. I truly hope you feel better and things level out for you soon.

I'm so sorry and hope you are feeling better. Fibro sucks. My best friend had it...with a couple other autoimmune diseases including diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. Yes, exercising supposedly helps. But she would be laid up in bed whenever she even tried to do anything. She died last year at the age of 56 and I miss her terribly. Where do you get a BFF when you are 57 years old?
