Herbs? I am thinking about growing some, I think it would be much cheaper and would give better taste to our food so what do you think? Are they easy to care for?

I use to grow my own parsley but that's about the only fresh herb I like. It's really easy to do but I stopped doing it because of the way I go camping. I always came back to dead parsley since no one was here to water it for me. I grew it on my kitchen window sill.

Mint, rosemary, basil are all very easy to grow. Rosemary and mint comes back year after year. Be sure & grow mint in a container, it spreads like wildfire. It is great in fresh tea though.

I have basil and rosemary in pots in the sunroom.. They are really easy to care for. I have tried to grow oregano but had no luck.. Don't know why..

:smokin: Dill, parsley, basil and chives and that strange "weed" that keeps popping up in the garden. Must be something that blew over from the neighbor's yard!!! :canabis: :kidding :zzz

tarragon, basil, mint, chocolate mint, rosemary and dill. I keep the rosemary in a pot since it won't do well outside here when it starts to cool down. They are all pretty easy, just keep them moist.

Is dill hard? I use dill seeds when I can pickles and would like to try and grow it instead of buying it. How do you "harvest" it?

Nah, dill is easy. The lady that got mine started said her's started growing when she dumped her dill brine out in the yard and dill grew. She never planted it and has never tended it and she just cuts the tops off when it starts seeding.

Thanks, I think I'll give it a try. If it works, less money spent canning. Makes it even more profitable for us!

Fresh dill tastes far better in canning than the seed IMO. But the dill will go to seed on its own and you can harvest that if you like. Very easy to grow!

I agree, dill is very easy to grow. Cilantro is also easy to grow, but it likes cool weather. I try to remember the song..."parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme".....are all desert plants, and like the heat. We saw huge rosemary bushes in Israel, it grows like a hedge. It also likes very little water. Like I said, desert plant, desert conditions.

My grandma has her own herb shop in indiana. She really likes gardening and it doesnt seem to be too hard on her. (and her food is AWESOME!)
