wow, havent been to the store in 2 weeks, did I get a shocker,I knew the food was going up,but never dreamed as much as it did.Gas prices driving everything the price of food up due to truckers.
No meat I could afford accept 1 package of rolled hamburger,5 lbs,10.00 on sale, all other meat, couldnt buy it,not enough money,Ill split the meat in to 3 small packages,2 Encore main meal packages were 7.00,so there is 5 meals, milk stunned me,2 weeks ago 259 a gallon, for whole milk-for the kids,it was like 3.79 today,I had to get the kids 2%-it was 3.20 a gallon,I got 1.What are we all gong to do,prices like this will cause alot of familes to starve,go to a food bank, where no one is giving due to being so broke.
Hubbys says he feels like a depression is on the way,Im beginning to believe him, what am I going to do to feed this lg family, this is starting to get scarey.
Im really worried about Christmas for these kids, their dad died,so that makes it worse for the holidays on them and us.
Im just giving a huge whine here,Im sure alot of us are in the same boat.

I know what your saying..... right now I have no vehicle and I am a single mom of 3 little girls living off of only $400 month child support... I am currently getting stamps to feed my kids but after bills come out and we get what little stuff for the home like shampoos and toilet paper and stuff we are completely broke with no extras.... someone told me the other day to have my cable and phone and internet shut off and that would be one less bill..... they are right but since I cant afford to do anything with my kids I would hate to take their tv and computer away.... I just cant do that to them as thats their only means of entertainment here at home...
I know what ya mean....do you get food from Angel Foods??? Last month we got 2 boxes(a regular one and a meat one) for $50 and we STILL have meat left from it and there are 4 of us. It is more then worth it.

It is carzy with the prices so high. This is what Mini is talking about http://www.angelfoodministries.com what is nice about this also is there is no income limit they go by. Plus they do take food stamps chyna. See if they offer it where you live.

One time they had Pizza from Pizza hut, they had froze it,and laid all of them out for people to take, the boxes were all open and spilling everywhere,it depends on who is runnig it on that sat. on how thins will turn out.

I know what you mean and they will not lower the income limits for things like food stamps. We are a family of six and make $300 too much a month to receive food stamps.
By the time we pay the car payment and fill up both vehicles over half of dh's check is gone and we haven't payed any other bills or bought groceries yet. I don't know what we're going to do this winter. We have oil heat and the price is likely to be over $500 for 100 gallons of oil which will last a month.

I totally understand. I went yesterday and what usually costs me around $50 for food cost me $99. It was ridiculous. Time to hook the printer back up and look for coupons...

This past weekend, there's not much I can suggest on the meat, except check the clearance bins. I get a lot of my meat out of them, and freeze right away.
I also buy local produce off roadside stands. it is MUCH cheaper than the grocery store now....because they do not have to jack you up on the price to cover trucking and shipping. Also, the produce is bigger and better, so if you live where you have access to local produce like that check into it. it also helps your area economy.
That helps offset some of the cost for us. Can't do anything about milk, cereal, snack items...But since fresh meat & fresh produce are the bulk of what we eat in our house...

I know how you feel its keeps going up every two weeks when I go. I think it's going to get a lot worse in the nexat few years. I hope not but I believe it is.

Have you looked into getting (or are you getting) SS death benefits for your children? If their dad worked enough hours while alive, your children could/should be eligible.

I was wondering the same thing too if you could get benefits for your kids if the dad died.

I'm going to have to say that I'm lucky...the prices here haven't gone up much at all. I just bought hamburger for $1.29 a lb, milk is 2/$5 for any kind (2% all the way down to ultra skim supreme)...the only thing that has really gone up is the junk food, like pop, chips, etc...other than that, the prices haven't gone up enough to be a sticker shock to me

Some stuff went way up here. Milk was a big one. DH is lactose intolerant and his milk is crazy. I usually get chicken and pork in huge family packs and split them up and freeze it.. The only meat I saw go up was beef..
We don't usually buy chips or soda so I can't say how much those went up.

the big problem with that around here is that no one takes internet coupons anymore, due to fraud. makes it soooooooo hard to feed the family when they wont take them.
