I know that flaxseed is good for hemorhoids, heart, cholesterol, blood pressure and diverticulosis of which I suffer from 3 three of these ailments.
My doctor doesn't want to prescribe more and more meds if flaxseed helps.
What is the recommended daily amount etc if known or limit per day to take anyhow.
TIA

I don't think there is a limit I use it a lot. The one thing most people don't know is that you need to grind them or buy ground flax seed to get the benefits from it. Whole seed passes right thru ya ;)

I heard that a simple coffee grinder used only for flaxseed works wonders too.

Thanks for this info.....I need to bring my cholesterol down...does it leave a taste in things or nothing so you can mix it with stuff and not change the taste

a tablespoon over oatmeal or in yogurt would be a great relief for you. Its an awesome soluble fiber, but make sure you drink lots of water. Bob's Red Mill put out a fairly reasonable organic golden flax that has a very mild taste and its already ground.
Oh, and don't cook it. It'll still be helpful, but it has natural lignens that are good for your heart and heat breaks them down.

Thanks for this info. I usually keep up with my daily fiber intake but I have been slacking with the way my hours at work run for some reason.
I may have to try this stuff.

I make things with flaxseed all the time. And yes they need to be ground up otherwise you don't get the benefits and they just go straight through your system. I have a grinder that is specifically made for flaxseed but, any coffee grinder will due.

I mix flaxseed in with just about everything...tomato sauce, oatmeal, sprinkled on salad. Usually 1 TBS. I buy organic ground flaxseed at Trader Joes.

but does it have a distiguished taste that you taste when it is added to something or is it one of those things that just dont have a flavor

My sister and her husband use flaxseed daily. They buy it whole seed and grind up what they need. Only takes a few sprinkles on salads and oatmeal and probably many other things. They are both 60 and beyond and very healthy.

tracyb, golden flax doesn't have much of a taste, its very mild. Dark flax has a pretty distinguished flavor, something like raw Spanish peanuts, I don't care for it. If you use the golden flax you really wouldn't notice it.

Thank you! I didn't know this. I have some that has been sitting in the kitchen for a month. I bought it and then didn't know how to use it.

just got a new grinder...and
found a co-op that sells both the organic golden and dark flaxseed for about $2 a pound. Is that a good price to pay?
TIA
