I was just talking to a friend and he wants to cancel the house phone, because he and his wife both have cell phones. She doesn't want to. I've been without a house phone for over a month and am surprised how little I miss it. I have the cell, and actually enjoy the lack of junk calls I received.

We have too many phones ! Landline, 'cause too many old friends, family members, many who I rarely see, but, they need to be able to reach me... and two cells... DH and mine. I an getting rid one one cell phone in September...lol, the contract runs out, and it's a goner ! We only need one cell phone, 'cause we are always together, unless DH is at work, and, the hospital is full of phones, he can call me anytime from work, 24/7.

We have cells only. I get my internet through my cable and dh, oldest son and I all have cells so there is no need for house phone.

It is only 10 more a month for an extra cell, a lot cheaper then house phone.

House and cell. I live in an area that gets poor cell reception so I don't have a choice.

I have both.....We leave the 14 yr old here alone in the mornings and even the 4 yr old can call 911 so we will not do without a house phone. I AM thinking about giving my cells up, though.

We have a both, I won't get rid of my house phone. The reception around here isn't the best and I wouldn't want to have to depend on my cell because of that.

We have cell phones. We hardly ever used the house phone. So I had it disconnected almost a year ago. We don't miss it at all.

The family has a landline phone and rarely I do I a phone call on my side. If I do one of them brings me a phone or a message. Meanwhile we all have a cellphone, 5 of them. I rarely get any cellphone calls and carry it mostly for emergency.

We rarely use our cell phones. We have virginmobile pay as you go. I use mine mostly for text messages.
At one time., when we were both single., neither of us had a home phone, only cellular.

I have 2 landlines and 3 cell phones. I plan on adding another phone to the plan for my son when we renew the contract in October. My DH uses his cell to call me from work and DD uses hers to call both of us from college. Right now if DD or DH and I go someplace and leave DS at home I leave my cell phone with him so he can reach me at anytime.

only cell phones here.
Got rid of the landline about 4 years ago; could see paying $35+ a month when the darn thing never rang.

We have a landline and three cell phones, but hopefully not for long. The only reason I have kept the landline is because I have my DSL through Embarq and they claim that I have to have the line to continue getting their DSL.

Well, I just found out the other day that they actually have "dry loop" DSL or "naked" DSL (have offered it for a couple of years now) but the only way you can get it is if you call and threaten to cancel all of your services. I read online that they actually lie about not having it to keep you locked in to what you currently have. I guess they have decided that in order to keep any business, they had better offer it, but only if you threaten to leave them all together. We'll see. I am sick of a $70/month home phone when all I want out of it is the internet.

I have a land line at home and 2 cell phones - one personal and one for work. I only keep my land line for dsl service. But my home bill is less than $ 45.00 per month - just phone service and dsl no extras at all.

We have both land and cell... My mother in law lives in portugal and it is really cheap through Vonage to call her. We could never get that rate on our cells, so that's why we keep it. Although, I guess since he only calls her every couple of months, the price difference might not be the huge savings he thinks it is. Hmm... I'll have to point that out to him!

We have both. I wouldn't have a house phone, but being foster parents, the State of Michigan says you have to have one, otherwise I would have only cellphones.

We have both. We actually went a few years w/ only a cell phone, but with kids using the phone all the time, I couldn't go w/o a home phone any longer... and with me an hour away for school and dh at work, I can't give up the cells.

We haven't had a land line since 02.. Me , dh, and the oldest have cell phones.. The 11 yr old is either with us or my oldest son so I am not worried if something happens while I'm gone.

I haven't had a home phone in over 10 yrs. Don't miss it at all.

I'm in another state from my family, so it wouldn't do any of us any good for me to have one. We use cell phones and the calls are free.

Cells only, why pay more for a land line? What we do is we added an additional line to our plan for $10/month and we hook it up to this base that connects it to a regular phone. So we have normal cordless phones in the house that run off of the extra cell phone that never moves. It actually works quite well for us at a much lower cost.

We have both. Cells are for emergency use.
I can not think of anything I need to chat about that is so important that I cannot finish grocery shopping first.
If you are bleeding, or in am ambulance; call me on the cell: I will help you. If you are bored, lonely or just nosy: wait until I can be at home to talk. I like to be comfortable when you are trying to bore me.

It fumes me to see people who have the phone on the entire time they are shopping. They can not even pay the clerk without acting like she interupted something amazing.
I lived most of my 38 years without a phone stapled to my head in a store or in the car.. I can surely still function without one.

We have both.I pay around $20 for home phone service,I had some issues with Time Warner and they made a deal with me by cutting all my services I use with them in half. We have cell service with AT&T,for 4 phone lines and the 1000 minutes a month plan with unlimited texting we pay $140 a month. My husband also has cell service through Sprint, but that is his work cell phone,we pay nothing on it.

I would love to get rid of the house phone, but our cells get such bad reception here that I just can't. If we had an emergency, or if the kids needed to contact us while we were gone, the call would be dropped almost before it went through.

We only have a house phone. It's just the two of us and the phone or computer will take messages. Besides, I see too many careless people driving or crossing the streets with cells and I don't want to hear their conversations at the store, etc.

I can so relate to this. We have both...landline and 3 cells. One for hubby, one for me, and one for my FIL. We have poor cell phone reception at our home so a landline is necessary.

I do love having a cell phone, but only because it affords me the opportunity to call someone when I'm out and I have a question that I'd rather not wait for an answer. Otherwise, I don't use it that often.

California recently passed a law requiring a hand's free device while driving. It went into effect on July 1st. Hubby has a Bluetooth and has told me that I need to get one. My feeling is that I'm 57 years old. If I need to talk to someone on the phone that bad, I can just pull off to the side of the road to make that phone call. I don't need another piece of equipment...LOL!

Guess Im probably really lucky living near a big metro area, and our cell reception is great...but then the cell is Sprint...and Kansas City is Spring headquarters. We have Sprint data cards for the computers, even the desktop, so we are covered there, even though that part isn't as good as the cable internet I used to have.

This is SOO My house too! I have to go outside to talk and then it still can drop calls. And this is with every cell phone company out there. Our area is a "Dead Zone" they like to say.

I just signed up today with T-Mobile for the home phone service for $10 a month. So with the cells, home phone, & internet it will be about $170 a month i'm sure.

Great poll!
I am surprised by the results, I didn't think that many people still had house phones. I don't know very many with house phones anymore. Mostly older relatives that will never have a cell phone.

What's funny to me is how much phones, house and cell, have changed. My friend who has me on his cell plan, and also his parents. Well, when his parents were just here a couple months ago, it was time to upgrade their phone, and his mom pulled this cell phone out of her purse--that was as big as my house phone used to be, lol. And when she went to upgrade, she hated the small phones now, and even the biggest cell available was too small for her....She's 87.

we got rid of our like 3 years ago. the only time we run into problems is when we have to fill out paper work that asks for our phone number. But thats getting to be less and less of a problem these days.

we have both but the only reason we have a home phone is because of our home alarm system. it has to have a phone to dial the police etc. i wish i could get rid of it though but i have to have a home alarm system. especially now with the rapist in the neighborhood.

We only have cell phones. I can't see paying $30 or so dollars for a phone that sits in the house and no one would use it. My son has his own cell from Altell and me and hubby have ours through Sprint. My dd has a boost mobile and we are all happy with ours. Dh work pays for his so that really helps.

I have Vonage with all the things a land line will get you. I pay 28.97 a month and it includes all long distance calls. Never goes over 28.97. I have no problem with it, it is great.

I think cell phones are a waste of money unless you have kids. I agree that you need a land line for old contacts/friends to contact you or look you up in the phone book.
