Would you care if they did away with the penny? One of the big arguments to keep it was that a lot of schools and places that have a lot of donations by younger kids would suffer as a lot of these kids bring pennies for their donation.
I think it would make things difficult to get used to for awhile.

I think we should keep the penny. Is it really that big of a deal? .. no. Besides, how would you pay for something if it was say $3.42? .. lol ;)

I think we should keep it also. It seems like a lot of work for stores and every one to have to change how you pay for stuff. How will stores make it at .05 incriments?
Plus I see the school thing. Our school has penny wars to raise money. The kids all bring in pennies and silver counts against your funds. It's easy to send in hand fulls of pennies and not want to give the dollars or silver stuff.

I think we should keep it too.

I love the penny. Playing penny slot machines when we go to Vegas is one of my favorite things to do. (Of course...no one really puts in any pennies, but it is the thought.)

They had a spot on tv about it tonight giving the pros and cons and there are good points on both sides. i would rather keep it but eventually they will get rid of it. It's just a matter of time.

I want to keep the penny. My son has jars and jars of them saved up...if they got rid of the penny, he'd just have jars and jars of nothingness saved up. I think the penny has a place in the monetary world.

Keep it. Just stop making new ones! Aren't there enough pennies out there already., why do they need to make more? I'm sure some congress members & senators own zinc & copper mines.

Each penny cost $.02 to make.
Each nickle cost $.10 to make.

I want to keep it. In Michigan we have a 6% sales tax, 6 cents to a dollar. I KNOW for a fact they wouldnt lower it to a nickel which means it would go up to a dime.
Me no like that.

I wanna keep the penny ! I always find them laying around... you know, the luck thing...

And millions of other reasons !

You know, this sounds like a 'small' issue, but really, it's huge !

Our state just reduced the food sales tax by another penny... and they said that amounts to 25 million dollars a year !! So, those pennies do add up !

They said on tv the penny not only cost more to make than a penny as someone said above but it is worth more than a penny. But they have made it illegal to melt them down for the metal in them.

I agree. $3.42 would go to $3.45, the nickle would be the next to disappear!!
