View Full Version : Awful burn :(

I work outdoors with paving, and last week I got an awful burn on my neck. At first I thought it might just be a bad sunburn, but as the days went on, it was turning an awful purplish color, and now hurts like a son of a you-know-what. It's right at my shirt line, so any shirt I wear (unless it's a tank top) hurts soooo much. I was practically in tears tonight in the shower.
I have been putting aloe vera and polysporin on it, but wonder if anyone has any home remedies? I don't think it's bad enough to merit a visit to the doctor (not yet, anyways), but it's still a pain in my arse. I don't work tomorrow (thank my lucky stars for that!), so I'd like to try and get it better a bit before going back on Tuesday.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
(I should take a picture....just need to figure out how to upload from the camera phone...)

That sounds very painful. What about putting a cold cloth on it. If it seems really bad maybe you should see a dr.

I've always heard to take aspirin, it helps take the fire out of it.

First make sure you drink lots of liquids. Take a brown paper bag cut it in strips and soak them in vinegar. Place the strips on the burn until they dry. Do not wait until they are completely dry as there is a chance it will stick to your neck. Good luck.

I know the picture isn't the best quality, but it's the best I could do with the camera phone and crappy lighting nest to the computer desk. And please don't notice the cheesy pyjamas I'm wearing. :lol

Thanks for the vinegar trick Mary. Going to try it first thing in the morning.
And yes, I have been taking Advil, but it isn't helping much, seeing as most of my clothes rub against it. :(

This would be my suggestion, vinegar works really well with burns.
Hope you get better soon.

It does stink but it worked for me in the past. I had 2nd degree burns years ago from a sunburn.

I'd be willing to bet it's concrete poisoning. DH use to cut concrete for a living and use to get it every once in a while. We would use apple cider vinager and lots of lotion with aloe in it. It's a chemical burn cause by some of the ingredients in cement.

hmmm thats a good thought. Smart gal...way to go. Between that and the sun it could be very very sore.

Wow, thanks so much ladies! I knew I could count on you guys. I just don't want to go pay a doctor to tell me I need to put polysporin on it. Arghh.
I have both vinegars in the cupbard and will try them. Does it help after the first shot? Ho many time do I need to reapply, and if I need to reapply, at what frequency?
Thanks!
I used to do rags with vinegar on them. Don't use any type of triple antibiotic ointment. We don't recommend that at the hospital because it's ointment and holds in heat. If you can get your hands on some silvadene, that's the ultimate. Before we had some (from a grass fire where my husband got 2nd and 3rd degree burns) I just used vinegar, aloe vera, and that sunburn spray from the pharmacies. Hurts going on, but cools it down fast.

You mentioned using Aloe, is it a lotion or straight from the plant? I use Aloe straight from the plant. Cut open a leaf and take the gel from inside and rub it on. That is what my whole family uses for burns. I always have an Aloe Vera plant.

Well, I tried the vinegar experiment. Either I'm really clumsy or it is just a really messy thing. I had vinegar dripping down my stomach, on my legs, everywhere, and I stank to high heavens! :lol Even my son wouldn't come near me! LOL
So I'm off to the pharmacy, after a quick shower. Going to look for the silvadene.
I don't own an Aloe plant, but am using an Aloe spray. It's been helping, but I do think I'm going to invest in a plant.
Thanks again ladies!

The vinegar is messy but it really works if you can stand it...lol. I do know that the stuff Katt was talking about is amazing, it is a tad expensive but worth it.

Oops. It wasn't silvadene. Sorry for the mistake.
Thank you all for the help. :)

Ok, it's ozonol. Farking stuff smells like band-aids. Arghh. And it's like a beigy-color, and super thick. But so far it's working.

OK, this is going to sound weird, but I know first hand that it works. I've had several second degree burns, and the pharmacist gave me Nupercainal to put on it. It's a hemmorhoid cream. Trust me, it works like a charm. Several months ago I spilled hot bacon grease on my foot. Second degree blisters on my big toe and the one next to it. Soaked it in cool water all day, and put Nupercainal on it that night and the next few days. Two days later, I was wearing my tennis shoes. No scars from the other burns I had either. Hope you feel better soon.

I was JUST going to post about using Preperation H. LOL
I pucked up a curling iron by the wrong end that had been on for days and it actually stuck to my hand it was THAT hot. I ran screaming to CVS and they told me to use Preperation H. It seemed to work, I took it to work and had to apply it every.5.minutes..but it did the job. I recently got an ice burn (had two bubbles on my fingertips booo) and got Solercane spray. It was a miracle.
Hope you feel better...that burn doesn't look too fun :(

Someone told me the white of a egg. They say it draws out the heat.
