SKOWHEGAN, Maine -- The animal rights group People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals, or PETA, is offering to rent the Somerset County Jail in Skowhegan until a buyer can be found.

PETA wants to convert the 1897 building into the world’s first-ever Lobster Empathy Center.

On its Web site, PETA, said visitors to the center could, if they wanted too, have their fingers rubber-banded together, and then they could walk into a dirty tank where they would be pressed up against other visitors to simulate conditions for lobsters in supermarket tanks.

PETA collected almost $29 million in donations in 2004 alone, but few donors understand exactly where their money is going. During the past ten years, PETA has spent four times as much on criminals and their legal defense than it has on shelters, spay-neuter programs, and other efforts that actually help animals.

From both a moral and a legal standpoint, there are far too many objectionable things about PETA to list here in detail. But the following "top ten list" is a good start ( actually this is just the first one ... go to the site for the other 9 ) http://www.activistcash.com/organization_overview.cfm/oid/21

PETA is not an animal welfare organization.

PETA spends less than one percent of its multi-million dollar budget actually helping animals. The group euthanized (killed) more than 1,900 animals in 2003 alone -- that's over 85 percent of the animals it received. In fact, from July 1998 through the end of 2003, PETA killed over 10,000 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals" at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. That's more than five animals every day.

On its 2002 federal income-tax return, PETA claimed a $9,370 expense for a giant walk-in freezer, the kind most people use as a meat locker or for ice-cream storage. But animal-rights activists don't eat meat or dairy foods. So far, the group hasn't confirmed the obvious -- that it's using the appliance to store the bodies of its victims.

You know those decals on the back of vehicles - the ones peeing on something - like a ford owner having one that's peeing on a sign of 'chevy' or a chevy owner having one peeing on the sign of 'dodge'

my dad has a guy peeing on letters that read "PETA"

and he totally means it..

PETA cares nothing about helping domesticated animals/circus animals. Their main goal is to make vegetarians out of everyone. In their sick twisted way, they believe it is helping the animals. The only animals they care to help are food source animals.
