My son is having an ABC picnic next week at school.
The students have to bring in a food that begins w/ the first letter of their first name. His name is Zach and all we can come up with is zucchinni.

It has to be cut and ready in 24 servings. I would like to come up with something that is a little more different than zucchinni. Also, it cannot contain nuts because of risk of allergies.

Put your thinking caps on and give me some ideas! Please? TIA

Zabaglione? It's made with wine but you might be able to substitute that with something else? http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/000746zabaglione.php It's a dessert type of custard...so if you substitute something for the wine, I doubt the kids would know that it wasn't "authentic" zabaglione...or there's a zabaglione gelato - ice cream type of thing http://www.italianchef.com/zabaglionegelato.html

Or something with maize? Maize has zein in it...so you could make a zein dish?....gosh Z is hard!

BTW, I'm not saying you should use the wine...it's just a Z word...you'd have to tweak it so it's not illegal and you don't get arrested ;)

Ziti? http://www.italianchef.com/baked-ziti.html

Zeppole? http://family.go.com/food/recipe-ar-16201-zeppole-t/ this recipe makes 35..they're a kind of doughnut-cookie cross

You could always make the zucchini into zucchini bread, and leave out the nuts.

How about a ziti casserole? You can make it with ground beef, cheese and sauce and if you bake it in a 13x9 pan, you can easily cut it into 24 servings!!

Zinfandel Blueberry Sorbet

8 ounces fresh, cleaned blueberries or 8 ounce bag
frozen blueberries, unsweetened
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup your favorite zinfandel

Put blueberries into a food processor and puree for 2 to 3 minutes. (If you're using fresh blueberries, wash and de-stem them first.)

Mix sugar and hot water in small bowl until sugar is dissolved.

Add lemon juice and salt to pured blueberries, whisk together, then add half the sugar and the zinfandel. Whisk again and taste. (You might need to add more sugar depending on the dryness of the wine.)

Strain to keep out berry skin and seeds.

Put mixture into a 9 x 13-inch Pyrex dish and cover with plastic wrap; freeze for 12 to 24 hours.

Take out of freezer and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, cut up into cubes and put into food processor. Puree until all frozen pieces are gone, put into container and freeze again for 12 to 24 hours. Serve.

Servings: 4

Zucchini fritters, or zucchini patties. They are both awesome and easy. I have a recipe for both and they are both good cold, so he can easily take them on a picnic.

Old German Breadmaking Blessing

Der Herr hat es uns gegeben,
Ohne Brot ist kein Leben.
Solang ein Brot im Kasten
Brauchen wir nicht zu fasten.
Herr segne unser Brot,
Dann haben wir keine Not.
Der Vater, der Sohn, und der Heilige Geist.

The Lord has given us bread.
Without it there is no life,
As long as bread is in the cupboard,
We need not fast.
Lord, bless our bread,
For then we have no need.
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
