Last year I got glasses at Pearle Vision. It took them 3 eye exams to get glasses I could see out of. I had to pay in full, $400 and I have insurance, before they would make the glasses and it took at least two weeks to make each pair of lenses. I had paid in full for glasses that took 2 months to get. I also got an extended warranty.
Less than a year later my glasses were so scratched I took them in for replacement under the warranty. That was in December. They kept telling me that the warranty didn't apply, that they couldn't find any record of me having purchased a warranty, yadda yadda. Finally 2 weeks ago I found the receipt for the warranty and took it in. Yesterday my new lenses were ready. They put them in my frames and I drove home. Luckily it was close to home and I know what a stop sign looks like without being able to read it and that the speed limit was 30 not 80. I called them and told them to take my old lenses out the trash and today went in to get those. They said the lenses were exactly the same as the old ones. I said told them they were close but not the same. I've been wearing glasses for 45 years and have never had problems like this.
Anyway, the moral of this long story is DO NOT go to Pearle Vision!
Any suggestions out there for less expensive glasses?

That's where I got mine. I have to take a break from my contacts a few times a year, so I have a couple prs of glasses. I got the transition lenses and really like them.

I would NOT go to Sear's optical either, they are just as bad as what your saying.....I do like Len's crafters, they are a bit more in price but they treat you better and do better business.

I stay AWAY from corporate owner type of EyeCare Stores, like Pearl & VisionWorks, Sears, etc.
I suggest going local., do you have VSP insurance? Most vision insurance is VSP, anyway.. just check their website & find a local doctor with just an office somewhere. They usually will haev a staff with low turn around & customer service that cares.

Or come to Nashville., I love my Eye Doctor.. HES THE BEST! :)

Wow I have been using Sears for years without a problem. I guess it is the individual locations because the one here does a really good job and usually has good deals going on.

That is where my eye Dr. suggested for reading glasses. He said they are the same exact thing as what they can make you for about $ 100.00 more per pair.

Yeah, but that doesnt help when your eyes are 2 different strengths, lol, unless you buy 2 of the exact same style with different strengths and swap out the lens on one side to make the perfect pair.

Didn't think of that problem-LOL. The problem I had was that the strength I needed was not available - didn't need as strong of reading glasses as they had available.

went to the Walmart Vision Center in March and the optometrist examined my eyes and I got a new pairs of lenses. Had them less than a week before I had to return them. (I knew I would have to return them before I left the store but thought I would give them a chance.) Anyhow, a different optometrist examined my eyes and wrote a different new prescription. I put the glasses on and had to sit down before I fell over, that's how bad the new prescription was. I couldn't even give them a try because I couldn't even see well enough to drive home. I had them put in my old lenses and when I put my old glasses on, I couldn't see! Told her the lenses must have been switched. She told me that the person in charge said it was correct but she took them and reversed my lenses and I could see. I got a refund for the lenses and left thinking there might be something physically wrong with my eyes.

Opthamologist saw me, looked in my eyes, said there was nothing wrong. I asked him why I couldn't see. He says, "I don't know." (dummy) I didn't ask him to recommend someone who MIGHT know but left instead. Went to the glaucoma specialist with hubby, described my problem to him and he'll see me this coming week and we'll find out if there is anything physical wrong with my eyes or at least maybe find out why in hell I can't see for sh*t! *Grumble* This is my vent for the year!

That's exactly how my second pair of lenses affected me! It could be that the reason they didn't work is that they didn't cut them right. But to do it twice with 2 different prescriptions. Maybe they have someone new working in the lab because I've always been satisfied with the glasses they've made me. I've worn glasses for nearly 50 years and have never had problems like this. Well, I'll know more this coming week, one way or another.

I just ordered a pair from 39dollarglasses.com last night. I've never used the site before, but I need new glasses badly and we have no insurance of any kind and I can't afford $300 for glasses. Hopefully they'll turn out well. On their website you can print out a picture of the glasses you like and it'll be the exact size of the actual glasses so you can see how big/small they are. Also, there's a coupon out right now for $10 off (EMSP10) so my glasses came to $34.95 shipped. :)

what do you do get your exam done at the drs. and then ask for your perscription and then just get on line with 39dollar and give them your prescription

JKATHERINE

Yes, Tracy. Just get an eye exam done and bring home your prescription with you. Pick out the frames you want and enter your prescription and your doctor's name and phone number and, voila! :)

I always go to America's Best for my glasses. someone else suggested their website. www.twopair.com

while they do take a little while to get, the eye exam and 2 pair of glasses run about $75 WITHOUT insurance. It's a GREAT deal!!!

I have a mystery shop scheduled next Friday for Pearle Vision... after reading this, I think I am going to cancel the mystery shop... even though $120 sounds like a great payment.

I got mine at walmart, and havent had any problems with them. The optomestrist even told me I should go get my cholesteral checked, as he could see a cloudy appearance in my eye. I still have gone to the doctor yet, but I appreciated him advising me of it.

Now, see, theres the difference again. My DH went to the WalMart in Bowling Green, KY and he swore for months he couldnt see as well as he could with his old glasses. He went to Doctor's Value Vision and VOILA! He can see again!
