Sheriff’s deputies investigating the deaths of a woman and a child found in a BREC park this afternoon are questioning two men who are considered persons of interest.
Deputies are no longer looking for an older model, 1980s Ford Crown Victoria seen leaving the park, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said.
The bodies were found in Doyle’s Bayou Park, 7801 Pride-Port Hudson Road, Gautreaux said.
Both victims were black.
BREC workers cutting grass in the back of the park found the woman’s body first, about 1:30 p.m., Gautreaux said.
Near the parking lot, the BREC workers found two other black children, both with cuts, Gautreaux said. One of the children, a 4-year-old girl, had a cut throat. When EMS technicians took the children to a hospital, they were both alive, he said.
When deputies were investigating the body of the dead woman who was in her 30s, a deputy photographing the scene found the body of a 5-year-old boy, Gautreaux said.
A person of interest is someone whom law enforcement authorities want to question in a case but someone who is not initially considered a suspect.
When the BREC workers went to the front of the park near the parking lot, they saw a woman get inside a Crown Victoria, he said.
A man and two children also were inside the car, which left when the workers arrived, Gautreaux said. Those people and their car are not linked to the case, he said.
