I just got mine, said what it would be, however, I fail to see how $300.00 will change much on my end, I am single, but I have bills and such as well as anyone so I could go to Target, or Macys, I am saving mine for a HUGE RAINY DAY..$300.00 is MAD MONEY for me for others a small means of survival..and in some cases, some friends of mine are going to the grocery to stock up on canned goods and such..and one day as they say, those canned goods, will run out..and then what?
Weird George Bush Sr., did the same cash stimulus and I thought it was grand, but as I get older, it seems it really isn't so much..even at $600.00 my best friend will try to hold her out of foreclosure..so nothing fun for her..at all....but I send her family care packages every 2 weeks, so I try..
whatever

Yep, we were hoping for the 1200 like they talked everywhere. And then at that site it said 600. what a let down. We were going to use it in our upstairs repairs. If he thinks this is going to help boost the economy he is sadly mistaken. He still denies we are in a recession for god sakes. probably because he is loaded, surrounded by other people who are loaded:getyou

I didnt get my hopes up on gettig a large amount. Whenever it gets here, we will then get excited. Even if its $300 it will still help. It will be used for bills though if we can survive that long. LOL

Ours was actually more than what we thought we'd get (Thank you Lord). We assumed since I don't work that we would only get $600 for my husband but they sent the $1200. I don't know why it happened that way. I do know that my Nana is only getting $900, her sister who did her taxes said it is because she got so much back on her tax return that she basically didn't pay taxes so she would get the minimum. I really don't understand the formula they used to figure it all out.

It frustrates me that because my son was 17 at the end of 2007, we don't qualify for any of the stimulus payment for him....He still lives here, as my child, is still in school....so how fair is that supposed to be? But some is better than none, I grant you that.

I think they go by your income...meaning even if one spouse doesn't work if the other one made more money then you will get the full $600 for both. Even still if both spouses worked but had a lower income one may only get the $300 while the other gets the full $600...and each child is $300. Don't quote me on this it is only what I gathered...lol.

Yeah, no kidding. I could see if he filed his own taxes . . . but if you're still claiming him, u should be able to get him included. Now if u'r not claiming him anymore, he's claiming himself, then I guess there's no legit complaint.

we we are getting 300 less than we thought we would BUT I have to honestly say I will NOT complain because this is something they didn't even have to do for us AND I feel we are getting less because we already got free money when we got some (although very little) earned income credit.......at least I think we got that it might have been that other child credit thing.

And about the age 17 being the cut off, it is because the cut off for Child Tax Credit is 17 yrs old. (At least that is how I understood it)

Yes!!! Finally, the IRS site is showing what our family will get. Here is what it said as of this morning:
Your total Stimulus payment was calculated as $1,500.00 and consists of the following:
Basic Amount: $1,200.00.
Qualifying Child Amount: $300.00 (Based on 1 qualifying children).
Your payment of $1,500.00 is scheduled to be deposited to your bank on May 9, 2008. If you do not receive the credit by May 14, 2008, please contact us again. We are unable to take any action until then.
You guys had me nervous that we might just get $900 because I don't work outside the home. Of course, I would be grateful for any amount but, like many here, we could sure use that $600 extra. :D

The payment is based on your tax liability. If your tax was $558.00 and you have two kids they would add $600.00 making your payment $1158.00. It can go from 0 to 1200 per married couple and 300 per child. The child's amount follows the rules for the child tax credit and that stops the year the child turns 17.

Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?
A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment.
Q. If my stimulus payment is not going to affect my 2008 tax refund or increase the tax I owe next year, why is it I need to retain the letter that lists how much I received?
A. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount on your 2007 return but you do on your 2008 return, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received. [New 4/11/08]
Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?
A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

I checked mine and the IRS website finally says something different but still no real information.
We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus payment is not available.
Possible reasons include:
* Your payment may still be coming, but has not yet been scheduled. Information will be available here as payments are issued based on the last two digits of the primary SSN shown on your 2007 tax return. Specific information about your Stimulus Payment will not be available until about one week before your payment is scheduled to be issued. See the complete Payment Schedule below for more information

That is because the cut off age for the child tax credit is 17 years old. My daughter turned 17 on December 31, 2007, so she did not qualify for the child tax credit for our 2007 refund even though we claimed her on our taxes, nor did she qualify for the $300 rebate for the stimulus rebate we are getting on Friday (I still feel that 18 years old should be the cut off age, but who am I to say?).
Anyway, your son won't qualify on your tax refund for the child tax credit next year because he'll be 17 years old then, even though you claim him on your taxes.
Hope that makes sense.

We did the same thing and the lady I talked to the other day said once my amended return showed processed in the system our stimulus check would automatically be deposited. OMG! Are you serious? Well, that could explain the hold up on my money that I was suppose to get deposited yesterday. I sent my amended thing in Feb. and should get that money by next month at the latest. So, until they send out that last little bit they owe me, I won't get my stimulus check deposited??? That blows. I totally forgot about it, too, because I haven't gotten anything. Never even thought that would make a difference.

You can call the IRS hotline (1-800-829-1040) to find out the status of your amended return. If you sent yours out in Feb., it sould have been completed by now. When I called about mine, they said anything after the date of March 25 has not been processed yet. If you use the automated system and punch in the number if you sent your return out before March 25, they connect you to a live operator and they SHOULD be able to tell you what is wrong. I did my amended return on my own and am just hoping I did all of the math right and sent in all the right forms. If you forget to dot one i and cross one t, they will deny it.:getyou

I did my own as well online. They had sent me an email when it was time to do the amended part. And here I was glad that I was getting some money back from all the tuition I paid to my daughter's school, but it's become a pain in the butt for just $185! Especially since I probably would have had my big amount now without it. Ah well. Thanks for the number.. I will be calling tomorrow to see what's up.

Basic Amount: $1,200.00.
Qualifying Child Amount: $900.00 (Based on 3 qualifying children).
Your payment of $2,100.00 is scheduled to be deposited to your bank on May 16, 2008. If you do not receive the credit by May 21, 2008, please contact us again. We are unable to take any action until then.

You should receive a notice showing the amount of your payment. Please hold on to it because you will need it when you prepare your 2008 tax return.

Does it say this on their site? In the letter I received, it said...Note: You will not be required to report the amount of your stimulus payment as taxable income on your 2008 federal income tax return.
This is why I'm wondering why they'd want us to hold onto the letter.

I wondered the same thing. Also, our payment was deposited on May 2 like it was supposed to be. Then the following Friday we got a letter, dated May 5, stating when our money would be deposited (it said the 2nd, which it was) and if we didn't have the money in so many weeks after the date of the letter to let them know. How much money did they spend sending out the first letters to everyone letting us know we'd be getting a refund, then it seems like we received a second one and then this one. Somebody must be rolling in the money the government spent on postage just for those notices to go out to all the people!

Sandooch, the payment will not be reported as income, but it will have to be reported in a different section of next years return.
This payment is an advance on a credit that everyone was going to be able to take next year. There will be a section on the form that asks how much of the credit you have already received as a stimulus payment. If you are entitled to more of a credit than what they sent, you will get it off your taxes next year.
It will have to be reported but not as additional income that you earned.
Hope this makes sense.

I, too, received my letter after the money was deposited. I've only received one letter before this one telling us we'd be getting a stimulus package, and I know the government spent over $4,000,000 to send those out. What a waste of money!

Yes it does and thank you for that reply. I'd better store that letter with last years tax papers.

we got ours last Saturday... it's gone now.
bills... I swear ... the collector's even HEAR a whisper of a "check" and they are banging down your door.
Luckily, the only thing that I "splurged" on was a 4 foot cedar / conifer tree for our side yard....it might not be much, but, eventually it will put out fresh air. LOL

Was yours direct deposited or paper? And if it were paper, when was it supposed be mailed out (according to their chart). I'm just curious because mine says May 30 is when it's supposed to be mailed out but then there was that talk about them sending things out a week earlier...so was curious which it was doing? TIA
