Stimulus payments start going out next week!

Boy, this year is sure flying by! Next week is May already and our tax rebates should start going out next week. DH has a low ssn so ours should be in our account one of the first ones. I do have a small balance on my credit card that I want to pay off so I don't have to pay interest on it, but other than that I want to keep the rest in the savings. With high gas and grocery prices I don't know how feasible that is, but that's the plan.

Those of you eagerly awaiting your tax rebate checks will rejoice at the Treasury Department's announcement that they're depositing the checks ahead of schedule. Their original announcement stated that May 2 would be rebate check opening day, but they've updated their schedule with the early start date of Monday, April 28.

If the IRS has your direct deposit information then your check will be deposited earlier than those who will receive their check in the mail. However, the mailed checks will also be sent a week ahead of schedule and mailings will begin on May 9. All rebates will be distributed according to the last two digits of your social security number as originally stated. I guess ours is going to be used to fund our trip down south to South Carolina to see family and then back up to Ft Bragg NC to see friends. We are getting $2100,with gas prices and all I hope it is enough LOL....I wonder how high gas prices will be at the end of June? My kids arent out of school til 21 June.

hurray for direct deposit. We are in the last group and it's a big jump from
May 12 to July 4.

I am sure ours will be some for bills, rest for savings. DH is in sales, summer is usually his busy time so we have to save up for the winter.

When you'll get your check
The exact date you receive a stimulus check will depend largely on the last two digits of your Social Security number.

On jointly filed returns, the mailing schedule will be based on the first Social Security number listed, the IRS said. For taxpayers who filed by April 15 and had their tax refunds deposited directly into a bank or other financial account, the IRS will send stimulus payments starting Monday. It estimates direct-deposit payments will be complete by May 2.

If you expect a tax refund and chose to directly deposit it into two or three separate accounts, the IRS will send your stimulus check in the mail. (To have your refund sent to more than one account requires you fill out Form 8888. See this IRS page for more information.)

If you have a past-due federal or state income-tax bill or some other type of past-due federal debt such as student loans or child support, your stimulus payment likely will be reduced by what you owe.

An entire revised timetable for rebate distribution wasn't available, so some of the following dates could be moved up.

There may be exceptions, the IRS warned. "A small percentage of tax returns will require additional time to process and to compute a stimulus payment amount. For these returns, stimulus payments may not be issued in accordance with the schedule above, even if the tax return was processed by April 15," the IRS said.

"We have some returns that require a second look, that require us to pull them out of the processing for some reason or another," IRS spokesman Anthony Burke said. "It may not be that there's anything wrong with the return."

The "vast majority of people" will receive stimulus payments according to the posted schedule, Burke said, "but it's a big system, a lot of returns go through our pipeline," so some returns may not go exactly according to schedule.

Stimulus Payment Schedule for Tax Returns Processed by April 15

Economic stimulus payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer's Social Security number. People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting April 28. The first cycle of paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and continuing through May 16.

Ours will be direct deposit.. thankfully! Will be going to pay off our CC and then the kids will each get $200 in their accounts. Still have some left over for our savings account.
