View Full Version : Stimulus Check
My husband and I recently seperated. The stimulus check is supposed to be direct deposited since that is how we did our taxes. When I went to the IRS website a few months ago I figured out that we would get $1800. Since we seperated my husband is trying to tell me that he heard that the government has set some new guideline where no one will get more than $1200. I think he is just bull****ing me and trying to pull a fast one. Has anyone heard of this?

I think it sucks that when you are in the military and on active duty overseas, serving your country.....
they don't count that pay as income earned.

Has anyone gone and used the payment calculator from the IRS? http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/
When I did it, it told me that I would be getting back way less than I expected.

I use the payment calculator, it told me I was getting back $1200 ($300 x 4 people in my household..myself and 3 kids) but I didn't make a whole lot.
The amount you get is based on your pay so some people may not get the full amount.
from the IRS website
Eligible individuals will receive between $300 and $600.
Those who are eligible and file a joint return will receive a total of between $600 and $1,200.
Those with children will get an additional $300 for each qualifying child.
The actual amount depends on the information contained on your tax return. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=179211,00.html

yep thats what I thought too great my kids will get some added money into their accts. but I know how hubby works he will see the other $600 as HIS so I wont get any but thats ok I dont have a paying job anyway lol
We have two kids and when I used the calculator a few months ago it said that we would get $1800. I seriously think he is just trying to pull a fast one. Funny thing is that it will be direct deposited so I will be able to see how much we get. Then again, the dumb ass may really think that and if that is the case then oh well!

Guys don't think of things like that sometimes. LOL
It's Kevin and I and we filed jointly and then he claims his two kids from a previous marriage and my 14 year old son. Like buttrfli we thought that we would get back $2100 but who knows what we will end up with.

I, too, understood it to be $600 per couple and $300 per kid
but when I did the calculator, it bases the amount of check on WHAT YOUR TAXABLE INCOME WAS AFTER ALL DEDUCTIONS.
so we *THOUGHT* we were going to get $1500 (fam of 3), but since our income was $28,000 after deductions and our taxable income after further deductions was $144, we are not entitled to anything.
I think that's just WRONG.
Those of us who need it the most are the ones that it seems they will be denying it to!
I keep seeing different dates for when they are starting to mail them/ deposit them... does anyone know the real date for them going out?

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably about two weeks later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.
A small percentage of tax returns will require additional time to process and to compute a stimulus payment amount. For these returns, stimulus payments may not be issued in accordance with the schedule above, even if the tax return was processed by April 15

If you filed your return with the status of married filing joint, you will get a total of $600 for the couple not $600 each. You can only get the $300 stimulus payment for children who did not turn 17 before January 1, 2008.

$1200 for couples, $600 single, $300 for each child.

We thought we would get $2100 back, but with the calculator it was $1800.
I don't think we make enough to get the $600 each. We do not get the full child tax credit.
I am not complaining. We are using ours to go to Cleveland. Do the tourist thing. The only thing I am bummed about is we have to wait for a paper check cuz we didn't do DD. With DH's last digits we have to wait til July.

I have a ? about that - how do we know if we "do" DD? We "do" DD on our regular once a yearly tax - is it the same for this tax check?
And yea about that who's SS # digits do they go by - mine or hubby's?

if you did DD on your regular taxes this year, then this check will come direct deposit.. and they will go by whichever SSN is listed first on the taxes.

We mail our 1040 in and get a refund check in the mail.
If you had your refund DD'ed then, your rebate will be DD'ed.
The IRS website says it goes by the SS# listed first on your 1040 (or whatever form) when you file. I can't find where I read it at now though.
My DH is first cuz he is the only one w/ income. and of course his last #s are high.

If your refund was direct deposited, the stimulus payment will be direct deposited to the same account. If you received your refund by mail, the payment will go to the same address. At least that's how I understood it.

That's right. I thought the cut off age for a child credit was 18, but my accountant told me that I can claim my oldest daughter on my taxes, but I will not get a child tax credit for her because she turned 17 on December 31,2007.

No, it is a completely different tax issue, with different rules, and in a different section of the tax forms.
EIC can be claimed until the child turns 18, but tax credit can not. Ends the year the child turns 17.
