my aunt was killed in a car accident last night :sob She leaves behind three daughters, 23, 21, and 17. My mom doesn't know much about the funeral since she's waiting on the coroner. Luke has offered to pay for me to go back, we're looking up airfare, if anyone recommends a cheap website, please let me know. I feel so guilty for being gone for too long and the last time I saw her was like three years ago and now I'll never see her again. And my poor cousins I can't imagine what they are going through. where was that through? If anything I think we're going to do Allegiant, they offer no bereavement fares but it would be a little over $300 w/ everything and I would be minutes away from my family.

I'm unsure how much you get refunded for bereavement and if it's just a couple hundred, it will still be cheaper to do Allegiant as most flights are close to $600 into $1000+ Really when I come back is flexible

Bereavement is 10-75% off fares, typically 50% off. You may be better just searching the travelocity type sites, the airline itself and a travel agent.

Thank you unfortunately there is no airport close to my family through them. :(

I know who I'm going through I just need to figure out if I want to stay one or two weeks and I just don't know, I know that seems silly and part of me says two weeks b/c I haven't been back for three years but the other part is saying one partly b/c I am going to miss my dogs so much it's not even going to be funny. I wish someone else would make this decision for me, I don't want to deal w/ it and my head hurts from all the crying. :( But I think I'm going to do two b/c I don't know when I'll be back again and this was always my fear, that someone would die and I wouldn't see them for years beforehand and now my nightmare has come true. :(

When my uncle passed away in January I called both United and American. They both offer bereavement fares. I think mine was $275 round trip. All you have to do is call them with the name and phone number of the funeral home and they confirm and give you the bereavement fare.

Thank you everyone, I booked my flight, I leave Saturday. I called a few places and their bereavement fares were ridiculous, I didn't go through Allegiant since the earliest I would get there was Monday and that's too late. I'll return home the 29th so I'll get a good stay but not be away from the puppies for too long :( I appreciate all of your hugs and support they really mean a lot to me.

OmaLisa, I know I'm coming back under awful circumstances but I'd still like to meet you if we can get our schedules together. I will need someone to keep my mind off of it so I am not crying the whole time.

I called my dad and he was very supportive and asked if I wanted to stay w/ them, but I think I'm going to stay w/ my mom since she was very close to her sister and I know she is taking it hard. I can tell she wants to not think about it b/c she told me to bring mushroom hunting clothes (which I so will! I love morels) Sounds like a good quality mother/daughter time and will hopefully get both of our minds off the tragedy for a little while. I know I'm rambling, I'm just all alone right now, not even Luke is here til 10 tonight. :(

I had to get a flight for DH to go to CA from WY last fall when his niece passed. I went thru a travel agency, got a bereavement fare and saved several hundred, was at least 50%. Thats all I had to do was give them the name & # of funeral home.

well I'm back with my family. I just wanted to stop in w/ a quick "hello" these last few days have been really tough and the next two are going to be even tougher. in the morning we have the wake and the funeral is on tuesday. i still cannot believe this is real. my cousins are devestated (as expected) and there is nothing I or anyone else can do to make it better for them and that just breaks my heart. today they finalized the brochure and service and then we got to see the body and they just lost it. :( :sob I don't know how I'm going to make it though, I'm trying to be strong for everyone (especially my mom) but I know I won't be able to anymore and my heart is just breaking inside. i just cannot believe that I will never in my life see my aunt again and I don't know how to deal w/ that. She was the kind of person you would want in your life - she was warm and caring, you could always talk to her about anything... she always had a smile that was contagious, it's so hard to know that we have to learn to live w/o her. :( I am so thankful i had her as my aunt, I feel she has touched so many people's lives and we were all lucky to have known her. :sob
