I just went out on the balcony to smoke and there was a pretty black kitty out there. It was rubbing up on my feet so I reached down to pet it and it scratched the hell out of my knee and ran off. Nice.

So now I have about a 3 inch bloody scratch across my knee!

I washed it off and put Betadine on it, don't have any peroxide.

Gonna make sure I let my Dd know to leave that kitty alone if she sees it out there.

Glad you cleaned it real well. My DS got scratched last year and had to have surgery. He got cat scratch fever. The infection caused a lump under his arm pit. They had to remove it.

It was a big scare, the first Dr was telling us that it may be cancer. That is when they when in to remove it. After the tests came back as cat scratch fever it was a relief.

What is Cat Stratch Fever?

The surgeon told me it comes from the bacteria in the cat's claws. Because they scratch in their poo.

I know those cat scratches (& bites) can be pretty nasty. My son's cat was upset about something a while back and i was gonna snuggle him.....he dug claws, teeth, the whole works into my arm. It hurt like hell. I immediately peroxided everything, antibacterial cream on it and bandages. Looked like I was in a car wreck lol a local trapper here says his dog has had some of the worst infections from cat bites/scratches than any other animal he's tangled with.

BTW, Hippie.......wth are you doing smoking??? thought you quit!!!!

I hate cat scratches! I'm allergic to them I guess, at least their scratch. When I get scratch from them it bubbles up and it hurt like hell. It's not like a dog's scratch. Keep it clean so it doesn't get an infection.

Cat scratch fever:
Signs and symptoms
Cat scratch fever presents with tender regional lymphadenopathy, sterile suppurative papules at the site of inoculation, slight fever, headache, chills, backache, abdominal pain, malaise, alteration of mental status, and convulsions. It may take 7 to 14 days, or as long as two months, before symptoms appear. Most cases are benign and self-limiting, but lymphadenopathy may persist for several months after other symptoms disappear. The prognosis is generally favorable. In temperate climates, most cases occur in fall and winter. The disease usually resolves spontaneously, with or without treatment, in one month. In immunocompromised patients more severe complications sometimes occur

My daughter had cat scratch fever several years ago. Come to find out
she is allergic to cats and some dogs. We were in and out of that damned
ear, nose and throat specialists office doing all kinds of tests to find out what was wrong with her.

I just saw this. My quitting didn't last long. But I smoke about 1/3 less than I did before.

I had a kitten when I was 3, used to scratch the H*** out of me. No problems. I have 6 cats now, I had 7. My oldest died last November. I am asthmatic and also allergic to them. Actually it's their saliva that causes most symptoms. Cats groom themselves, we pet them and there you go! As far as cat scratches go, I've had many. A 3 inch scratch is small when you're playing with your kitties sometimes. Allergic reactions make my scratches welt and itch like crazy, but hey, I'm still alive. I wouldn't trade my my cats for all the freebies in the world!!!

OUCH! I hate cat scratches those mofos sting forever too :( I remember my dog and kitty were playing and my cat decided to jump off my face and left three long scratches acrossed my cheek.. OUCH! (that's one of the main reasons I don't care to have a cat again, it drives me nutty when they're all lovey dovey and nice and then BOOM they scratch the crap out of you and you're left bleeding) of course this is not all cats, I've had so many and they were never that way, I think I would have smacked them upside the head if they did that to me, that crap hurts!

It's the nature of the beast to scratch! We don't have lions and tigers running around our homes but kitties are related to them!!!

and it's w/in my reflexes to get something that's hurting me away. I've had cats since the day I was born up until three years ago when my baby had to be put to sleep from a brain tumor - none of my cats ever did that, the times they scratched were accidents and although I yelled in pain I didn't smack them, but they never loved up on someone and then BAM! claws flying everywhere, I wouldn't have a cat like that

you need to find out who the cat belongs to and have them put it up for 10 days to make sure it doesnt have rabies. i got bit and scratched by a cat a few months ago and i had to have a tetanus shot and antibotics and they had to make sure the cat wasnt rabid. you just have to keep an eye on the cat for 10 days and make sure it doesnt get sick or die. if its ok after 10 days then your ok for it not having rabies.

Hope it heals good. One of the many reasons I don't care for cats. I had a black cat once that was crazy. I called it Purina Bin Laden. My husband called it a black *****!

Yeah, they sting a long time, like a papercut. It's red and puffy looking this morning ad hurts like hell still. It's pretty deep for a scracth, and it's on the part of my knee that bends alot too.

The cat is a stray, it's been hanging around for awhile. The maintence guys here feed it and a few others over by the boiler room. Yesterday was the 1st time I'd seen it on my balcony tho. I'm going to try and catch it this weekend and take it to the shelter I volunteer at.
