Let's say a couple had sex on feb 22 (only once with no protection).. on march first or second the girl produces a positive pregnancy test.. Let's also say that the girl has been sleeping with her ex (but denying it).
What is the probability that the kid that she may be carrying is the dude she had sex w/on the 22nd ?

I guess it would depend on her cycle and if she was ovulating when she had sex on the 22nd. I suck at figuring this stuff out, tho......

That would only be like 8 or 9 days, I kind of doubt it.

I thought that normally to had to have missed your period to get a positive result on a pregnancy test???

Yep it depends on her cycle. I believe that if she was in her the last 14 days of the cycle it could be possible.
SHoot I wish I remembered how it goes, sorry...

With some of the newer ones you can get a result before you miss your period.

Thats right, what is it? EPT, 5 days sooner than other tests? Even before your missed period. So maybe it is.
I've never been able to figure out my "fertile" time.
Does anyone know how to figure that out?

Your cycle starts on the first day you bleed when you start your period, approximately 14 days from then you ovulate and approximately 14 days after that you start your period again....
it is possible that she would be pregnant but I would SCREAM for a blood test. I think that's kind of soon for the hormones to show up for a positive pregnancy test.

ITA she should get a bloodtest also.

How many days do you "ovulate" then? Its only a couple right?

Heres a quote from a website cause I wasn't sure about the ovulation window
:stork
women cannot assume that they cannot get pregnant only on their ovulation day. Although the egg can only be fertilized during a window period of about 12-24 hours, sperm can live inside a woman’s reproductive tract for 72 + hours. Therefore, a woman’s fertile period can be up to a week long. Therefore, simply charting ovulation is not the best way to protect oneself from pregnancy. Well-Woman recommends using a barrier method, such as a latex condom every time you have sexual intercourse.

You ovulate technically one day, but can still get pregnant if you have sex a couple days before or after that day. Don't think a pregnancy test would show positive if only like a week pregnant. Even a blood test would need her to be further along, because at a week, there isn't enough of the hormone to tell.

That's exactly what I was thinking.. I had to actually sit here with a calendar and add up what I was told.. I seriously think she got pregnant by the ex and is trying to pin it on the other one b/c he is a better person than the ex. I truly believe she is manipulating the situation.
This is frustrating...

seems early to me to show us positive from the 22nd date.... but.... It could change. I would wait another week and try again and see what happens.

Well whoever she is, I wish her the best. Sounds like quite a pickle she's in, and its going to affect the rest of her life.

I have my OB-GYN on the phone (for a different reason) and I asked her.
She said "The most sensitive pregnancy tests (that you can get online) can detect hCG levels at as low as 20 mIU. This level of hCG is present in the urine of pregnant women at about 8 days after conception. BUT it would need to be the 1st morning urine and the chance of a false positive is high, because in measuring such a small amount of hCG, some women have that amount in their urine and are not pregnant, especially those who have trophoblastic diseases."
So then she wanted to know why I was asking and was getting ready to give me a lecture, and I told her and she said, "Tell that girl that it is most probably her ex's baby, if indeed she is pregnant. But their is a slight chance it could be the other guy's."

Is everything OK for you? Just wondering....

I found out with my son a week before my period was due. This baby I was 10 days post ovulation when I got my first + test.

With OB-GYN part, yes. Some of the medications I've taken for my leukemia necessitate having an exam twice a year, instead of only once. But my new ins was refusing to pay for the 2nd one, so she was assuring me that she would submit the right paperwork this time, so my ins will cover it.
Thanx for asking!

Yeah I kinda doubt she would internet a test to herself b/c her mother is home all day. And I am pretty sure that it wasn't morning urine either..
Thanks for asking your doc! I am glad everything is ok with yourself :)
