My grandaughter arrived Sunday at 6:41 a.m. She is having a little bit of a rough start, her right lung collapsed when she tried to take her first breath and she had air trapped in her chest cavity. She was transferred to a bigger hospital 50 miles away to NICU. She was doing better yesterday, her lung had repaired itself but she developed pnumonia. She's in an oxygen tent and they are weaning her from it. The doctor says she will be okay but it will take some time,she will be in the hospital at least 10 days.
Mommy and daddy haven't been able to hold her yet but they will as soon as she's weaned from the tent. Hubby and I came home last night so we could get some rest and he could go to work and now I'm snowed in :( As soon as it clears up I will be going back to the hospital. This is the only picture we have, the nurses where she was born took it since she wasn't able to have her newborn pictures done.

Congrats! The exact same thing happened to my son! It is called phuemothroax (sp???). His little lung collapsed too and he was rushed to a larger hospital. He was there 6 days. It healed with meds. He had so many tubes in his head and chest (fluid out/nutrients in,IVs, etc). I know how hard it is, but hang tough. The drs and RNs who care for these bitty babies are angels on earth!

My son got to hold her last night, it seem to have lifted his spirits alot. :)
They reduced the oxygen down to 25 and will keep it there the biggest part of the day. She has gained 2 oz. and is doing better :)

Yes, she is there, but she wasn't feeling well last night and went back to the Ronald McDonald house to lay down. The hospital released her at the same time as the baby. The nurse was straightening up the babys bassinet so thats why he got to hold her :) and he changed her diaper :)

She had a natural birth. She got to the hospital at 12:30 that morning and had her a 6:41. She did so well, I keep telling her how proud I am of her.
My son, her mother and I all were allowed to stay and watch the baby be born. :)
