So Ive been sick with this sinus thing for almost 3 weeks. I called them yesterday to find out what I could take. They told me tylenol for the pain, robitussin dm to thin out the congestion, saline nasal spray blah blah blah. If its not better by Thursday to call back, or if it gets too bad to handle or your BP goes up to call anytime. Well, I went in and took a warm shower and when I got out I felt like my farking face was going to explode. Ok, took some tylenol. No relief. Its really bad. Im not much of a whiner when it comes to pain, but Im struggling here. So I called them back. The receptionist says "Oh well they arent in the office today." Ok, so how bout asking one of the other nurses to give me a call. Nope cant do that, its against policy. WHAT THE FARK!?!? So I said, ok, what happens if I call in and something is seriously wrong, what would you do then? She says, oh we would talk to the other doctor. By this time Im so flipping mad I cant even answer her. So I ask her what I should do. She told me to "deal with it until tomorrow" Farking *****. Im so mad. So what the hell? My only option is to go to the farking ER for a sinus headache. I hate that, its NOT an emergency that needs to be seen at an ER. I will be asking him at my next appointment what exactly the policy is. I have PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension) and I want to know what they would do if I call in on his day off because Im feeling "off" Im sure right now my BP is skyrocketing. I have been seeing him for more than 5 years and I have never had this happen before. :getyou

I just think its stupid. The office is open. There are 3 doctors that practice there. I wish I knew what they expect this doctors whole patient load to do if they need him. He always tells me at every appointment that if I need him just to call. Im not mad anymore just annoyed :(

I've got those and both private and work emails for my son's doctor! His doctor would always say the same thing..to just call him if we need him (because my son has all these weird rare medical conditions..don't get me started on that) and so one day I called because my son was having an issue where he would open his mouth and blood just poured out..looked like something out of a horror movie..so I called and they said "oh well he's not in the office today" and then I told her what was going on and they said that they were booked for the day..so I told her that I was taking my son to the ER and that I expected to my son's doctor to be there within an hour to take care of him, since he knows all my son's problems and ER docs don't always pay attention or they don't believe me. Anyways, my son ended up being admitted right away but his doctor didn't know until I happened to bump into him at the cafeteria the next morning..when I told him what happened, he came up and checked on my son and then handed me a piece of paper with his home number, his and his wife's cell numbers, and both of his email addresses so that I could always get ahold of him.

jayhawkfan - I hope you can find something to make you feel better, at least a little bit. That's horrible that they won't even let another nurse talk to you.

that's terrible. At the family dr I used to have there were multiple drs and eventhough I had one that I usually went to, if they were out that day they would let me know and ask if I wanted to schedule w/ someone else. I think that is BS that she told you to deal w/ it until tomorrow, I'd be speaking w/ my dr about that, what if you couldn't "deal w/ it" but like you said, there really is no need for an ER visit. I hope you feel better soon, two years ago I had my first bouts w/ sinus infections (two right in a row) and OMG just awful.

Well I told my DH about the call. He proceded to call down there form work (he works with an orthopedic dr) and when he called me back just a bit ago they said they would call me something in. Pissed me off again. Im glad that he got through with the "inside" line, but damn. So he is going to the pharmacy to pick up the meds.

I'm glad you are going to get something for your pain and I hope it works. :hug that's unreal that your DH was able to get through to them but you were not, maybe he got a different person?

They gave me keflex for the infection and Flonase nasal spray for my nose.

He got through because he can call using the doctors line.

Hope your doing better soon and the meds kick in fast. My OB is similar, her office is at the hospital and you have to call through the switchboard and sometimes it takes me hours to get anyone to pick up. If I ever have a big emergency, I'll skip calling her and just head to the ER.

I hope you feel better. Keflex seems to work pretty fast. And next time give me the # I'll call too!~ I hate when offices do that. You can always make room for one more patient. and most doctors want the $$ .

didnt you guys see the thing where they have lawsuits against keflex? anyway flonase is a steroid nasal spray for sinus/ allergy problems me and my daughter take it also the saline nose spray 2 sprays in each nostril 2x a day does really work wonders I know I do it every day because my mucous gets so thick in my nose and this is the only way I can keep it thin to where it doesnt gag me(it drips into the back of my throat)I have bad sinuses and allergies. Im also on astelin and used to get bad sinus infections before I took these nose sprays since Ive taken them almost 2 years ago I havent had one sinus infection. I still have some sinus problems so Ive been referred to a ENT especially because they said my ear tubes or ear drums not sure which one are pointing backwards. must be why I can hear so darn well. but anyway hope the nose sprays and what not help. I cant believe drs still prescribe keflex after all the problems its been causing. my drs office wont write a script for it.heres what it can cause as well as a list of other popular meds

That sucks. You would think there would be a doctor on call that is covering for your regular doctor. Glad your husband was able to help.

I agree - I have never heard of a Dr. that didn't have someone covering their calls.

I so feel for you.
I had to take my 16 yr old DS to the doc yesturday
we were work in's. We were there for over 6 hours
and ended up finding out he has a virus that is going
around and a sinus infection. Lastnight, I had my
6 yr old DS throwing up but no feaver, I dread
even thinking of calling the doctors office today.

There actually was someone there covering. His PA was working. She said that she wasnt sure why the receptionist said that I had to talk to the doctor or his nurse. She was the same one that gave me the run around when I called to make my first appointment. I will be talking to him about it when I go in on the 12th.

On a good note, Im feeling so much better. I still havent used the Flonase. I have that weird pregnant mama feeling about it. Im just not sure I trust it LOL. But the keflex has worked its magic. Bad news is that I have 3 sick kids and a sick DH. The 3 yr old slept all day yesterday and ran a fever all night. The 9 yr old came home from school yesterday and went straight to bed, and slept until 6 this morning. And is running a fever today. The 11 yr old has a sore throat...again. And my poor DH has to leave on a business trip this morning and he is all congested and sinusy. Someday we will all be healthy. I need to get out the disinfectant and go on a deep cleaning spree.

So sorry, I can feel your pain. I've been internally bleeding in my head for almost 2 months (that we're aware of!) and I had to BEG to be seen by a specialist. My DR was never concerned. It was his secretary that ended up making the referral for me - god love her!!

((hugs))
