i have a friend who lives in ohio and her boyfriends son was killed on jan. 2 and i wanted to see if i can fidn the newspaper article on this......
this little boy was 2 years old and was beaten by the mom and the moms new boyfriend.... any help would be great... ty all in advance

Mother, boyfriend indicted in toddler’s death

BLADE STAFF


A Toledo mother and her boyfriend were indicted by a Lucas County grand jury today on murder and manslaughter charges related to the death of her 23-month-old son on the day after Christmas.

Antionette Hairston, 25, of 1702 Ottawa Drive, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony child endangering. Her boyfriend, Mitchell Moore, 20, also of the Ottawa Drive address, was charged with one count each of murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and child endangering.

If convicted, Mr. Moore faces life in prison. The child’s mother faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Tayvon Evans died Dec. 26 at Toledo Hospital, shortly after he was brought there unconscious, with cuts on his wrists, a burn on his leg, bruising, lacerations, and injuries to his head and chest. Ms. Hairston and Mr. Moore were arrested the same day and charged with felony child endangering.

Both remain in custody in lieu of $500,000 bonds each.

Ms. Hairston appeared in Toledo Municipal Court this morning where her preliminary hearing was continued until Monday. On Wednesday, she was escorted by jail officials to the funeral home that is handling her child’s arrangements.

According to court records, Mr. Moore admitted to police that he beat the child and that the abuse had occurred over the course of several days.

WOODSFIELD, Ohio -- A Monroe County man has been charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.

Police said the toddler was rushed to the hospital then airlifted to another hospital after suffering blunt force trauma to the head on Wednesday. The boy died Thursday at an Akron hospital.

Jayson Kerns, who dates the child's mother, was originally charged with felonious assault. As of Friday afternoon, prosecutors were determining additional charges.

Police said they have investigated the child's family before.

In May, the boy's mother, Tara Darby, and father, Jason Hess, were charged after police said Hess was doing drugs in front of the boy and his 4-year-old sister at their Powhatan Point home.

Hess pleaded guilty to drug charges and child endangerment and Darby's charges were later dropped. Soon after, Darby moved to Woodsfield.

Monroe County Job and Family Services Director Deborah Haney said, "Anytime there is a death of a child or abuse or neglect of a child it's a tragedy. We must take care of them and protect them."

As of Friday afternoon, it was not clear how the toddler was injured. An autopsy was expected to be performed earlier in the day.

My son's neighbor, killed her 7 week old baby and then herself. No not the case you were asking about but terrible just the same. The husband , an orthopedic surgeon, came home to find them. My son's other neighbor heard this screaming that sounded unhuman and ran to see. The father was holding the baby saying he's not dead is he. And the neighbor said it was so obvious the poor baby was dead. She had shot both of them. Another case of post partum depression, it could happen to any of us. Does it seem more prevalent now?

so then how is the guy(dad) friend is dating even being judged here yes he was part of an investigation several months ago and he made a mistake and got rehab,bu the loved his son and has nothing to do with this... so yes she is dating a good guy

This is why I said the father wasn't a prince! Although he had nothing to do with the tragic death of his son, he still obviously isn't a great find either.

Thank you for that update. I'm sorry I was so judgemental but I can't stand it when people expose their children to drugs. I'm so glad to hear that he has turned his life around. And, of course, even with his mistakes, it doesn't lesson his loss.

Please understand that I wasn't saying he deserved to lose his son. Of course he didn't. One act had absolutely nothing to do with the other. My comment was directed at the fact that your friend was dating the father...who had been convicted of child endangerment. Based on that, I wondered why she would date someone like that. However, you subsequently have clarified that he has taken responsibility for what he did and has turned his life around.

This is a very sad situation a young child is dead and someone is responsible. However, Jayson Kerns is no longer a suspect due to the fact the injuries to this poor child were old. I think it is only fair to clear Kerns's name since it has been trashed in recent weeks. Kerns has made some very bad decissions in his life, but the same can be said about the baby's father, Jason Hess.

just because they havent pressed charges yet doesnt mean he or the mom are innocent and how if you dont know the family can you say the injuries are old? that wasnt in the article i saw.

i only know about it because i am good friends with one of jason hess's now ex girlfriends. so that means i dont know a lot but i do know that the death of a poor helpless baby is sick and wrong and whoever did it deserves to be punished and or worse

I use to party with him and hang out alot and i just cant picture him doing this to a kid. Now I am not really taking sides or anything but i just hope the truth comes out because something horrible happened.
